Conference Tours

Free for conference participants.

The aim of our conference tours is to provide opportunity for informal networking, possibly creating partnership among the conference participants.

First conference tour: Krems and Altenburg Abbey
Tuesday, October 2

The bus leaves at 10.45 from the conference venue.

Our first stop will be Krems, a charming town with old medieval architecture and favourable seat on the Danube river. Do not miss Steiner Tor from 15th century. It is a preserved medieval gate and the symbol of the city.
You will have time for lunch. We reccommend to visit Schmiedl, a bakery from 1780 (located on Obere Landstrase) and taste its typical Austrian pastry.
Our second stop is Altenburg Abbey. The monastery was foundedn in 1144 and transformed in the 18th century into a baroque jewel of marble,stucco and frescos by eminent artists of the time. The highlights include the church, the library and the crypt with its unique “dance of death” paintings. 

The tour is non-guided, but accompanied by the IISES team.

Lunch and entrance fees are not included.

We will be back at around 6PM. The time of return is approximate and cannot be guaranteed.

Participants who registered for this conference tour will receive a tour voucher at the registration desk. 

Children under six years are not allowed on the tour.

Second conference tour: Melk Monastery and Durnstein 
Thursday, October 4

The bus leaves at 9.00 from the conference venue.

First we will visit Benedictine Abbey of Melk from the early 18th century the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The large building of the monastery dominates the old town Melk. In the monastery you can admire a beautiful baroque church, library and ceiling frescoes. In Melk you will have time for lunch.

From Melk we will go through the Wachau Valley along the Danube River to a picturesque village Durnstein, where you can visit a beautiful baroque church. You will enjoy a scenic trip through the romantic Austrian countryside with old villages and vineyards.

The tour is non-guided, but accompanied by the IISES team.
