Therefore, this paper explores the impact of current residency regions for Egyptian households on current subjective financial situation as an indicator of poverty level across demographic and socio-economic factors. Residency regions involve less developed and developed areas in Egypt and residency in Italy as international migration. The data set was obtained from Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute that was collected by local research teams in Egypt and Italy. Questionnaires information was concurrently collected from domestic and migrant households in a manner that comparable survey instruments in both countries share the same basic modular design and layout. Ordered logit model is constructed to analyze these data since the response variable in this study is expressed in four categories which have natural ordering. The results indicate that migration to Italy and moving from less developed to developed regions in Egypt enhance current subjective financial situation. Improved past financial situation is an indicator for acquiring better current financial situation which is obvious in less developed regions more than developed regions and Italy. Households migrated to Italy and have current work improved their current subjective financial situation. From the early nineteenth century ?pioneers of protest? down to the civil and post-civil rights activists, Black Americans have invoked Africa as a critical repertoire of resistance. None more so than Malcolm X (1925-1965). Although he began his activist career in the Nation of Islam, an organization that focused less on Africa as a source of inspiration and strength, Malcolm would, shortly after his break with the NOI, position Africa at the core, and the foundation, for his philosophy of resistance and empowerment for Blacks. In his writings and speeches; and in the movement that he developed for advancing the black struggles, Malcolm X prioritized the African nexus. He advocated broadening the purview of the Black American struggles to include Africa. In his view, Africa offered much of what Black Americans lacked and desperately need in their historic struggles?the moral, cultural, political, and intellectual force and authority that would facilitate black liberation and empowerment in both America and globally. The rules of law in conjunction with the society's values are affected by some components like traditions, religion, moral values with no doubt. In today's world, in which ancient borders almost disappear and globalization started to form in many ways although universal rules of law are attempts to be reached as an ideal principle in the specific examples, cultural variables are possible to be seen. One of the best example for this situation is the problems in criminal law applications. In this context, Turkey's view in the value structure-specific problems such as tradition, honor, blood herding as the causes of crime may be encountered and these are related to the legitimacy differentiation or a religious practice circumcision which the body immunity violation of terms could be evaluated as a number of cultural differences. This research aims to explore the factors that affect job satisfaction of academic staff on the basis of a study in a HEI in the Sultanate of Oman. In the process of exploring the factors, first a wide range of the literature were reviewed to identify the most common factors that affect job satisfaction of academic staff. It was followed by interviews of selected six academic staff members in a College in the HEI in Oman. The literature review and the interview data analysis revealed six factors that would affect job satisfaction of academics: Remuneration and development, Management support, Students, Colleagues, Workload, and Status of job. A quantitative questionnaire survey was then conducted in the same university to study the influence of the six factors on job satisfaction of academic staff. From the analysis of the survey data it was found that all the six factors were positively associated with job satisfaction. Among them the work load was most strongly associated with job satisfaction followed by the perception about colleagues, status of job, management support, and remuneration and development. The perception about students was found to be relatively weakly associated with job satisfaction. Value? A Study of Jordanian Listed Firms Abstract: In the last decade corporate control has been facing a major challenge enhanced by successive corporate scandals; moreover, the shape of relationship between financial decisions (capital structure) and ownership structure on the firm value has been the heart debate of academics and financial experts for recent years. Furthermore, there have been contradictory findings across years by different researchers all over the world, in this path the studies of Demsetz (1983), Demsetz and Lehn (1985) provides support to no statistical relationship between ownership structure and firm performance. On the other hand, subsequent studies by Morck, Shleifer and Vishny (1988), McConnell & Servaes (1990; 1996), Smith & Watts (1992), and Lang et al., (1996) all these studies reported that their statistical analysis support the existence of relationship between both capital structure and firms? performance. In turn capital structure is likely to affect managers' incentives and, hence, the firms? performance (Harris & Raviv (1991); Fama & French (1998); Barclays & Smith (1999); and Rizov (2004)).This study uses a sample of Jordanian non-financial firms listed from 2005-2012 to examine how the capital structure, and ownership structure affect the firm?s value. The study depends on panel data analysis; the dependent variable is the firm value measured by P/E ratio, and the independent variables are leverage measured by Debt/ Asset ratio, and ownership concentration through Herfindahl index, for the explanatory variables they contain both firm size, and profitability.Partially consistent with the previous studies; my empirical results support the presence of significant relationship between capital structure and firm value, and insignificant relationship between ownership structure and firms value for Jordanian firms. Evidence from Europe Abstract: A company can go bankrupt if the value of its assets drops below the debt level. This event can happen at any point in time. This is however not taken into account in the plain vanilla option framework of the Merton model. Theoretically, the barrier version of the Merton model shall therefore be more accurate since it allows the company to go bankrupt at time prior to or at maturity. This theoretical prediction is tested on European most liquid companies. The implied default probabilities are compared with observed default rates given the Standard & Poor?s rating grades. We provide evidence that the Barrier version of Merton model is more realistic, i.e. provides a significantly better fit to observed default rates, based on the value of the Diebold-Mariano test statistics. Abstract: Following recent evidence of out-of-sample stock market return predictability, the authors aim to evaluate whether the potential benefits suggested by asset allocation theory can actually be captured in the real world using expected return estimates from a predictive system. The question is addressed in the context of an investor maximizing the long-term growth rate of wealth under a maximum drawdown constraint, and compare the optimal strategy using the predictive system with a similar risk-based allocation strategy independent of expected return estimates. The authors find that the risk-based strategy implies nonetheless very variable and relatively high expected returns, and report important potential benefits in using the expected return estimates of the predictive system they used. Since UPOU was established in 1995, course materials in printed form have always been necessary to courses. When a student enrols in a course, a printed course module is delivered to the student. However, in 2013, in line with the university?s commitment to the principle of openness in education as well as the preservation of the environment, it was mandated that instead of printed copies, electronic copies in portable document format (PDF) of course materials shall be provided to students. To cater students who prefer printed copies, an online store was set up to allow students to buy printed course modules. This study aims to analyze the activity in the online store and determine whether electronic copies of course materials can ultimately replace printed ones at the UP Open University. Sales data was collected from the online store, customers were profiled, and possible correlations between the customer profiles and sales data were summarized. Abstract: In his trilogy "Homo Sacer", "State of Exception" and "What remains of Auschwitz", Giorgio Agamben analyzes important aspects of the human condition and the ways in which human rights were perceived over the centuries. Through an internationalist perspective, and based on the concepts brought about by Agamben?s Homo Sacer, this study has the aim of argue that the State of Exception is constantly in force and coexist with the universality of human rights ? thus the coexistence of the universality of the exception and the universality of human rights is a new reality, not ignoring the debates on universalism versus relativism and the hazard of imposing a ?one-size-fits-all? approach to every situation.Additionally, taking into consideration the boundaries between the human citizens and the Homo Sacer, this study questions the possibility of an international vindication of human rights and the legitimacy of external interferences in States that are lenient towards violations of human rights. This analysis will be guided by the concept of jus cogens and the role of the International Criminal Court as a mechanism of deterrence of further abuses and of reinforcement of human rights standards. Also, a great part of this concerns, we must admit, is related to the supremacy of economic interests and the neoliberal societies that forget human perspectives when promoting the capitalism in its strict understanding. Thus, firstly the necessary definition is about the State of Exception and how the neoliberal societies depend on the exclusion of some individuals who are ignored by everyone. Secondly, the intent is to highlight the importance of the recognizement of this victims once there is no only one testimony to be given. There is no group of survivors or homogeneity of the victims of the regime, what makes them a human waste and the perpetrators, criminals agains humanity. And lastly, it will be important to define what the Homo Sacer is and the idea of the irreducible minimum, which will be important to defend a human rights theory and its importance on the protection of it alongside the rules of capital and the necessities of the capitalist regime. The function of the school is not only to transfer information; is to provide the development of students in many ways. In this respect, the community service implementations are intended to develop student confidence and a sense of responsibility, to create new interests, to improve some skills. Community service implementation contained in Primary and Secondary Schools Social Activities Regulation that was published in 2005 by Ministry of National Education is a reflection of this idea. When examining the related literature, there wasn?t sufficient number of academic studies about community service activities applied in primary and secondary schools in Turkey. The studies were conducted mostly within the scope of "Community Service Implementations" course in universities. In this context, this study can be seen as a guide or sample for activities about community service will be practice in secondary schools involved in the stage of primary education. The purpose of this study is to develop activities about acquisition B which is one of the 14 acquisitions included in relevant legislation and to determine the opinions of students and teachers about these activities. Acquisition B included in relevant legislation is about "making activities about beautify, maintenance and repair of school and ?ts environment " In line with this acquisition, three activities were planned and implemented. This study was designed with a qualitative approach. The typical case sampling was used. In this context, students and teachers who study in the classes that activity is done at a secondary school located in the center of Eskisehir are included to study. Data to determine students' opinions were collected by questionnaire consisting of open-ended questions. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with teachers. In addition, researchers took field notes about the implementation process as a participant observer in the classroom. The analysis of the data obtained three key themes has emerged as cognitive, affective and psychomotor qualifications gained by students. In addition, participants were offered some suggestions for the activities. All teachers who participate in activities have stated that community service implementations are important and useful and raise awareness of the students about the related issues. This process must be consistent and should include the evaluation of both internal and external variables. The university image audit should be regarded as part of the university strategic planning, because only consistent studies can provide information on how the university is accepted by different impact groups and what should be the trends of its creation process. Before talking about the university image audit, the university rating methodologies should be presented as they specifically provide information about how the university is seen as compared to other higher schools. The first comparative evaluation of higher schools was performed in the United States in 1983 when the journal ?U. S. News & World Report? published the first rating table of universities and colleges of the United States. Today, university rankings are drawn up and published in more than 15 countries including the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Nigeria, Italy, Japan, Spain, Russia and Poland. In Lithuania, no generally accepted methodology of university ranking has been created so far. On the other hand, university ranking results are only one way to find out how a university is accepted and evaluated. Analysis of the theoretical literature, empirical studies and surveys conducted by market research and consulting companies allows suggesting that information for the holistic assessment of university image may be obtained by studying its identity, image and reputation. Besides that the importance of information increases, keeping and storing it in a safe way also appeared as an important need. Also, transferring it from one place to another place became inevitable need. This dependency to information made a current issue the need of keeping information. The attacks to information, its destroying, its cleaning, and being damaging of its confidentiality causes informational infrastructure to fall into decay and this, together with it, also leads the things to go wrong. Thus, the safety of information system gradually becomes more important. However, in information age, taking information under control gradually becomes difficult. Making the information flow more safe, from now on, has become a policy of governments. On this purpose, Information Safety Management System was developed. Informational Safety Management System is a systematic approach adopted for being able to manage the sensitive information of institute. The main purpose of this system is to keep the sensitive information. The works on this system includes work systems and information technology (IT) processes. Lack of information flow actualizing thanks to various environments in internet threatens the future safety of information. Information is easily obtained without permission. Performing the information circulation through open networks increases the risk. Information Safety Management System includes what kind of actions should be taken toward keeping the easily obtained information and how a policy should be followed. Society has cohesive devices. In these fields several procedures related to different cultural approaches and different social histories are sometimes invented for harmonization of different cultural entities. In this context society would be a meaningless concept unless the reconciliation which is the primary discourse was not implemented. Definition of concept of multi-culturalism is a challenging one. It can be defined as a situation which is bounded to a pluralism for every industrial community and to a cultural diversity. Cultural dialogue and social cohesion have important roles in this multi-cultural context. In this presentation the main goal is to figure out the unseen similarities by defining the concepts mentioned above with the help of social cohesion and cultural dialogue. With the rise of using web tools, the management of knowledge become crucial for enterprises as they understand effectively managing collective intellect can help firms to quickly response to the changeable market. The significance of SMEs to the global economy is obvious. However, current researches show that many SMEs are not taking advantage of the developing knowledge economy and move towards the e-business era. While it is generally accepted that there are much challenges faced by SMEs in utilising web tools when comparing with large sized enterprises, it is clear that very little work has been done to gain understand of using social media for knowledge management purpose. To address this gap, this research investigates the adoption of social media tools for managing knowledge among SMEs. There are two objectives: first, to explore the use of social media among SMEs, and second, to define in detail how social media is being put into practice and contributing towards knowledge management. Also, the paper shows that complex knowledge requires strong ties in order to be properly shared and used. Weak ties between departments in a company make information diffusion faster only if the knowledge shared is simple, otherwise if the information is complex, the communication between departments and the development of projects will encounter difficulties. The article analyses the structure and the dynamic of business social networks starting from Granovetter's theory and Burt?s social capital theory and offers practical examples of how to develop a business using the weak ties in social networks, such as the well-known Facebook platform or the professional oriented LinkedIn platform. An argument in favour of popular sovereignty as an additional requirement for statehood, on the grounds of justice as a moral foundation of international law Abstract: The Montevideo Convention of the Rights and Duties of States (1933) codified the declarative theory of statehood as accepted as part of customary international law and laid down the five requirements for statehood which are often summarized as 'the principle of effectivity': (a) permanent population, (b) defined territory, (c) organised power (government) and (d) ability to enter into relations with other states. The aim of this article is to discuss the possibility of an additional requirement: popular sovereignty in a specific historic sense. I will also discuss whether this requirement should be regarded as a necessary and/or sufficient condition for statehood. The importance of this additional condition will be explained in the light of the legitimacy of exercise of power. Furthermore, it will be argued that this additional requirement may help promote the suggested primary goal of international law, that being justice (instead of peace as easily inferred by the UN Charter) in the specific sense of the protection of basic human rights, as suggested by Buchanan in Justice, Legitimacy and Self-Determination. It has to be noted that both main points, namely Buchananâ??s suggested notion of justice as the primary goal of international law and my main argument of popular sovereignty in a specific historical sense as a requirement of statehood are not to be regarded as relating to any form of Natural law Theory. It is not the case that I maintain that any international norm which violates justice as ethical foundation of international law is, because of that reason, legally invalid. Although the Legal Positivism vs Natural Law Theory is certainly not the focus of this paper, if one wishes to regard Legal Positivism and Natural Law Theory as mutually exclusive, my suggestion falls entirely under the umbrella of Legal Positivism for reasons that will be explained. An important issue for tourism management common to many tourist sites is how the number of foreign tourists is increased. In particular, a multi-lateralization or stabilization of revenue can be attained by increasing not only the number of short-stay tourists, which does tend to be changed, but also the number of tourists who stay on a long-term basis. Furthermore, taking in not only tourist income but also business investment from overseas contributes to the local development of a tourist site. If many foreigners reside in the locality and begin businesses, in addition to just going shopping as tourists, it is thought to lead to an improvement in the local economy because of the direct investment from overseas. Moreover, when sources of knowledge or wisdom from overseas flow into a locality, it can even be expected that some transition or innovation in the society or economy, that was not previously considered, may happen. On the other hand, although it may be easy for a tourist site to increase the number of short-stay visitors temporarily by, for example, a particular event, cases which succeed in increasing the number of the lengthier stay or in starting businesses from overseas are scarce. In this study, we considered one of the ski resorts in Japan which has succeeded in rapidly increasing the number of the foreigners? lengthier stay and the promotion of foreigner?s starting businesses in recent years. The success factors were investigated by presenting a questionnaire to foreign tourists there. As for the design methodology of the research, environmental transitions, such as the recent Internet developments of social networks, were added to the consumer-behaviour process models of previous studies. The results show that the creation of a community controlled by the foreigners where there was reliance and empathy, and a network of tourism resources, are clear success factors. On the other hand, neither the expansion of a one-way advertising campaign nor improvements in transportation had a significant correlation. In conclusion, in order to expand the number of travellers and direct investment from overseas, the improvement of tourism resources by inter-regional associations and deregulation by the government, etc. are useful. Leadership styles such as transformational, ethical or authentic leadership which have been gained importance lastly, focuse on the effects and behaviors of constructive leadership (Schyns & Schilling, 2013). In accordance with the studies conducted on constructive leadership behaviors, it is seen that studies focused on the darker sides of leadership have been raised in the last decade. Although destructive leadership is an attention grabbing issue in all over the world, there is no comprehensive research on destructive leadership in Turkey. This kind of leadership has an important effect on employers from different perspectives. Hence, it is seen that understanding and preventing destructive leadership is also important for organizations and members as much as constructive leadership (Einarsen, Aasland, & Skogstad, 2007). In this context, the purpose of this study is to test theoretical model that destructive leadership behaviors of primary school principals affect teachers? psychological capital and organizational citizenship behaviors. The study is constructed with causal research design. The research sample is selected through stratified sampling from teachers in Eski?ehir. For testing theoretically constructed structural equation models, path analysis is used. Within this model destructive leadership is independent, organizational citizenship behavior is dependent and psychological capital is moderator variable. Data are collected through Destructive Leadership Questionnaire, Psychological Capital Questionnaire and Organizational Citizenship Behavior Questionnaire. The findings obtained from this study indicate that destructive leadership affect psychological capital and organizational citizenship behavior negatively, on the other hand psychological capital affect organizational citizenship behavior positively. Convergence between technologies (technological convergence) is now widely known to be an effective strategy for Science and Technology (S&T) innovation. Industry convergence is also recognized as a promising mechanism for creating new markets. Many researchers have been trying to measure and analyze the convergence phenomena. Though some successfully describe the current status of technological and/or industry convergence, the relationship between technological convergence and industry convergence has not yet been empirically and comprehensively studied. In this study, we empirically analyzed recent cases of technological and industry convergence in South Korea and the relationships between them. Patent data were used to analyze technological convergence. If more than two different classification codes (subclass of the IPC code) appeared in one patent, we considered it a new case of convergence between the two (or more) technologies. Thus, the degree of convergence between two technologies is represented by the number of patent having two different classification codes related to the technologies. All patent applications in Korea from 2009 to 2011 were surveyed and the results were visualized and analyzed using the social network analysis (SNA) method. This study used the production inducement coefficients (more specifically, the forward linkage effect) from the input-output analysis (I/O analysis) as a proxy for the degree of industry convergence, for the lack of a more widely-accepted methodology in the literature. From structural changes in the production inducement effect, we infer the convergence between industries (industry convergence from the economic point of view). In order to analyze the relationship between technological convergence and industry convergence, the technological convergence network obtained from patent analysis was converted into a technology-mediated industry convergence network (industry convergence from the technological point of view) using a patent-industry concordance table. The network of the technology-mediated industry convergence was compared to the industry convergence network deduced from the I/O analysis. The results show that technological convergence is active in the electrical engineering and chemistry fields. Across technology fields, however, convergence is limited. The convergence between electronics/electrical engineering industries was active from both the technological and economic point of view. However, the technology-mediated industry convergence network between electronics/electrical engineering industries and general/special industrial machinery industries does not indicate convergence in the economic point of view.More detailed results will be presented in the conference. Our aim was to explore what kind of features all of the European settlements have got, where we can find the automotive sector. Based on the results of our cluster analysis, the CEE area has got the weakest social and economic indicators in this international comparison. For this reason, it is essentially important to search for instruments and methods to support the economy of this region. One of the possibilities is the transport infrastructure and network development, because there are a lot of potentials in this branch. Or does it matter what it is for? Exploring the meaning of education for refugee girls in Dadaab Refugee camp secondary schools. Abstract: The priority for people displaced during war and crises is to find safety, food and shelter. Once these have been achieved, they look at the future of their children, a process that births diverse educational programs. Education then, becomes a futuristic endeavor by adults towards children. The question being asked by researchers and humanitarian organizations in emergency contexts is ?should an emergency education focus on short-term and immediate relief, or be conceived as a long-term objective?? (Kagawa cited in Wright, 2011, p. 29) Should education mitigate or exacerbate the conflict? What is education for, especially for refugees in protracted conflict situations where there are no clear signs or hopes of ever returning home? Moreover, what is it not for? There seems to be a tension between what education should be for and what it is yet to be. That is, to culture and adapt students into the pre-existing orders of society (sociological function) and the acquisition of skills and knowledge that helps students to qualify for jobs or enter the job market, (qualification function); and what education is not yet, that is what it will deliver in the future. The futuristic view seems to be more plausible because of the promises it hopes to deliver. What is missing in these constructions is a correlation of functions and purposes of education in building up a student to become a unique individual capable of being a holistic person. The discussions of what should be or not be the function of education seem to avoid experiences of students going through the same education. I will endeavor to discuss the purposes of education as distinct as they are, that is sociological, qualification and subjectification as proposed by Biesta, (2010), (the process of becoming a unique subject), and while at the same time trying to provide a middle ground of what education is in the tension between the functions. This middle ground shall be explored through a hermeneutic phenomenological study methodology by use of fieldwork interview material and other literature. Tacit and explicit knowledge sharing is of vital importance to organizations, enabling them to create value and sustain competitive advantage. This paper focuses on knowledge sharing as a reciprocal process of knowledge exchange and examines the factors that potentially have an impact on knowledge sharing. In this context, the effects of attitude toward knowledge sharing, subjective norm, organizational culture and organizational justice on ?intention to share knowledge? are examined. ?Attitude toward knowledge sharing? refers to an employee?s general assessment on knowledge sharing in organizational context. ?Organizational culture? consists of assumptions, perspectives, norms and values shared by employees and it contributes to the unique social and psychological environment of an organization. The term ?organizational justice? is characterized as the extent to which employees perceive workplace procedures, interactions and outcomes to be fair in nature. The ?subjective norm? is defined as perceived social pressure to perform or not perform a behavior. Based on these conceptualizations, a survey was conducted on a sample of 281 employees working for 2 service industry businesses in a province of Turkey. The data were gathered by structured question forms. Attitude toward knowledge sharing and intention to share knowledge were measured with 5 items each, while subjective norm was measured with 3 items. Organizational culture and organizational justice were measured with 6 items each. All scales were 5-point Likert-type scales whose reliability and validity were supported by previous researches by various scholars. In addition to the aforementioned variables, gender, age, managerial role, education and workplace tenure were considered as control variables that might have influence on intention to share knowledge. The data were analyzed with LISREL 8.7 software. First, confirmatory factor analyses were applied and the underlying factor structures of the variables were determined. Second, the research model was tested with path analysis and the proposed relationships between variables were examined. Last, the results are reported and theoretical and practical implications of the study were discussed. The complexity and the excess of information in internet make the use of semantic web in e-commerce mandatory. In practice, semantic web uses agents for economic income. Agents are integrated into e-commerce systems such as B2C (Business to Consumer) and B2B (Business to Business). So, agents enable the exchange between customers and sellers and allow shopping transaction. Multi-agent systems are generally used in agent-based e-commerce systems. Negotiation and auction gained importance in these multi-agent systems. There are some differences between B2B and B2C agent systems. These differences can be exemplified by some systems such as MIT?s KASBAH or E-bay?s AuctionBot. Reflection in an Internship Program Barriers in Estonian Universities Abstract: Scientific articles reflect a lot about different forms of university and industry collaborations. Mostly they talk about knowledge transfer and innovation. It is also important to pay attention to the inhibiting factors of accepting interns and on the other side examine difficulties that students have in finding internship placement as well as understand internship coordinators' views on the issue. For students internship is a good opportunity to learn job related skills and not necessarily get involved with the company in the future. This article reviews internship program barriers from three perspectives: interns and university supervisors from five Estonian universities and site supervisors from various companies. This study investigates an intern as someone who is in training, who may be paid, but who is a temporary employee (Tovey, 2001); internship as a supplement or complement to academic instruction in environmental science. The data from site supervisors and interns was collected through a web-based questionnaire and university supervisors were interviewed. Survey was carried out by the faculty of economics and business administration in University of Tartu during 2012-2014. The sample consists of 418 interns and 194 institutions providing internship. In addition 24 internship coordinators were interviewed. The study gives and overview of the state if internship in Estonia. The data has been discussed in the context of the related literature. Increasing the quality of internship in enterprises in Estonia involves various stakeholders. The authors of the present study find that change can be achieved by coordinated cooperation between stakeholders. In course of cooperation the best cooperation models and communication meeting mutually agreed aims can be developed.ReferensesTovey, J. (2001). One of these challenges is the shortage of labour force in the future, which will have a negative impact on the country?s economy. Thus, in this paper the study on impact of one of the significant factors of population ageing - migration - on the economy of Lithuania is conducted. Using a system of variables of net migration, gross domestic product, wage and unemployment rate a structural vector error correction model is developed. The paper also claims that, there is urgent need to implement effective policy means in order to maximize the migration related opportunities and minimize the costs. In addition, while migration can contribute to the growth of Lithuanian economy, it cannot provide by itself a solution to the demographic problems and budgetary implications of an ageing population. There is a realisation that the health of an individual is not just a function of his medical status but is also determined by the environment in which he work and lives. This idea of going beyond a pure bio-medical explanation for health status of individuals and looking at social determinants has provided researchers with tools for explaining the puzzle related to difference in health of individuals and societies who although living in the same country, state or municipal limits have different burden of disease. Research has identified various factors which influence the health status of the population. Analogously, there have been some studies to recognise the determinants of HIV. Variables that have been identified include Education (Alvarez-Uria, Midde, Pakam, & Naik, 2012; Bärnighausen, Hosegood, Timaeus, & Newell, 2010; Pais, 1996; Sarna et al., 2008; Vyas et al., 2009; Alvarez-Uria, Midde, & Naik, 2012), Socioeconomic status (Alvarez-Uria, Midde, Pakam, et al., 2012; Vyas et al., 2009), Alcohol (WHO, 2005), Employment (Alvarez-Uria, Midde, & Naik, 2012; Sarna et al., 2008), Wealth (Bärnighausen et al., 2010) & Rural v/s Urban Residence (Bärnighausen et al., 2010). However, the studies in India that looks at the pathway through which these social determinants act on HIV are scarce. This paper is an attempt to fill this gap. This study attempts to identify the pathway through which social determinants act on HIV morbidity in Women in the state of Kerala, India. Six independent variables that have been considered for this study include Health Service Delivery, Education, Employment, Wealth, Rural Residence and Alcohol. The sample size for the study is 677 women and the data has been drawn from the latest round of National Family Health Survey i.e. NFHS-3 which was conducted in the year 2005-06. Since there is presence of latent variable and multiple dependent and independent relationships in the conceptualised model, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) has been employed. Both the direct as well as the indirect effect of each of the independent variables on HIV morbidity have been evaluated. The results reveal that Health Service delivery has the strongest determining influence on HIV morbidity. Also, there is almost no presence of any indirect effects of any of the variables in the model. The objective of this article is to investigate three factors of influence on sustainable job creation in the small business sector in South Africa. These factors are: the economic environment; entrepreneurship education and access to finance in the small business sector. The study found that a culture less dependent on government hand-outs needs to be created by providing incentives for work. The economic environment will be further improved if public policy supports entrepreneurial activity. This could be achieved when barriers to enter the market are lowered, regulatory red tape reduced and an entrepreneurial environment for business development be provided. Furthermore, it is recommended that the tax regulatory environment should be made friendlier for the small business sector. It is also found that students need to develop the applicable practical skills, entrepreneurial attributes and behaviour in order to prevent venture failure. These skills could be developed when the content of courses and the process of learning are changed. Lastly, South Africa?s highly-developed financial infrastructure and well-developed mobile technology could be used to increase access to financial services. It is also found that available government support should be rigorously marketed to the public, via road shows, radio talk shows and agents who disseminate information and create awareness. Also, these developments created new platforms for communication. Rapid changes have occurred especially in the last decade. These changes have led social media to develop and pervade into every aspect of our life. In this respect the web 2-based internet has offered people new social environments where they can share theid ideas, feelings and knowledge and even their creativity. Particularly, these developments in social media were seen for politicians as a new field of propaganda and political communication. For this reason, social media platforms are used as an important means for political advertising in election campaigns. This situation arising as a result of technologcial developments has given rise to the widespread appearance of political communication in social media platforms. The use of social media becomes highly important for politicians in political campaigns. Therefore, the notion of ?digital politics? and ?online politics? have found a place in the political and academic literature. This study is an examination of the working of campaigns taking place in social media during the 30 March 2014 local elections in Turkey. The use of Facebook in political campaigns as a means of political communication is analyzed using the content analysis method. In this way, the political discourses of AKP and CHP are compared on the basis of their campaigns in the last local elections. In Korea, as other countries, considerable attention from public and private sector has focused on the nanotechnology due to the potential use in many industries and markets. Reports forecasting the technology for future expected that NT will be an alternative after 2020. Korean government kept investing for NT since ?Korea National Nanotechnology Development Plan? has established at 2001. Technical competitiveness in NT of Korea has improved and is on the level after US, Japan and Germany. The number of patent and research papers on NT is also increased after public investment has started. Recently the demand for industrialization of nanotechnology is raising because public investment has continued over decade. However, even though government continued investment in nanotechnology, the commercialized products or technologies based on NT are rare. In this study, we will summarize the policy on nanotechnology of Korean government after national plan has set and compare the market outlook and status for nanotechnology development and market. And we will also check the difficulties of commercialization from the companies working with nanotechnology or nano-product in market. Finally the direction of policy for promoting the commercialization and further development of nanotechnology will be addressed Length: 1 page Creation-Date: 2014-10 Publication-Status: Published in Proceedings of the Proceedings of the 13th International Academic Conference, Antibes, Oct 2014, pages 206-206 File-URL: https://iises.net/proceedings/13th-international-academic-conference-antibes/table-of-content/detail?cid=8&iid=034&rid=2658 File-Function: First version, 2014 Number: 0802658 Classification-JEL: Keywords: Nanotechnology, commercialization, Korea Handle: RePEc:sek:iacpro:0802658 Template-Type: ReDIF-Paper 1.0 Author-Name: Claudia Kitsikopoulos Author-Name-First: Claudia Author-Name-Last: Kitsikopoulos Author-Email: claudiakitsikopoulos@gmail.com Author-Workplace-Name: Faculty of Science, University of the Witwatersrand Author-Name: Dr. Ute Schwaibold Author-Name-First: Dr. Ute Author-Name-Last: Schwaibold Author-Email: Ute.Schwaibold@wits.ac.za Author-Workplace-Name: Faculty of Science, University of the Witwatersrand Author-Name: Douglas Taylor Author-Name-First: Douglas Author-Name-Last: Taylor Author-Email: douglas.taylor@pri.co.za Author-Workplace-Name: Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management, University of the Witwatersrand Title: GRI and other environmental reporting guidelines in South Africa: Getting the job done? Abstract: The interest in environmental sustainability and its reporting in South Africa have steadily increased as legislators and corporations recognize the need for change in business practice to achieve good corporate governance. Assistance with such disclosure is readily available to businesses in the form of, for example, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reporting guidelines and sustainability principles provided by the King Report of Corporate Governance (King III). However, to date, adequate progress in sustainability reporting has not been achieved. It is thus necessary to identify strengths and weaknesses of both the GRI and King III to guide business practice towards long-term sustainability and to obtain a better understanding where improvements could be made. Annual reports of 30 Top 100 Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) -listed companies were analysed to assess reporting quality and the presence of long-term monitoring. For this, the King III sustainability principles and the 30 environmental indicators of the GRI 3.1 guidelines were used. A scoring system assisted in determining the level of GRI reporting compliance. Interviews were conducted with the selected companies to address questions based on King III, GRI and any other issues arising from the report analysis. Financial data (such as return on equity (ROE)) will be compared with environmental performance obtained from annual report analyses to identify whether these are related and to establish how this can help to improve environmental reporting.Analyses thus far have shown that the average percentage performance of environmental reporting increased from 22.73% (2008) to 38.85% (2013). This indicates that, despite some improvement, companies across all economic groups are still underperforming. At the same time, the manner in which sustainability issues were addressed varied widely between years and across all companies. Interviews conducted revealed that not necessarily the indicators themselves need to be addressed. Several issues recurred throughout all interviews. Firstly, all companies experience reporting fatigue. Secondly, sustainability is driven from within the company. Thus, sound internal verification processes are necessary. Finally, companies experience cost and resource constraints in the implementation and management of environmental initiatives. Environmental reporting in South Africa has improved between 2008 and 2013, but standards are still lacking. The GRI guidelines appear to be the preferred reporting tool. Sustainability reporting is still in an early phase and South African companies are improving their reporting on the GRI and King III guidelines. Businesses now have to identify how sustainability is more holistically integrated into their daily operations. With the increase in publications, analysis and evaluation of the contents of these publications have become important. From this perspective, this study aims to determine which themes are presented in health news and programs on television and how they are broadcasted. Content analysis method has been used in order to reach the purpose determined above. The scope the study was constituted of the contents which were broadcasted in 2010. 51.291 video shoots were gained from TV?s with approximately 50 keywords of health field in 2010. Sample was taken every forth day of the year from 365 days media content as a universe by systematic random sampling method. Thus sample framework, which will represent the whole year in different terms at regular intervals, was contituted and 10408 shoots was taken into consideration. Content analysis coding guide was developed in order to gather the data for realizing the purpose of the study. In this guide 41 primary theme and 452 seperate sub category were coded. The distribution of 10408 shootings about health according to 4 different categories. It was determined that the content about health was broadcasted in the first three months of the year (28.3%); namely January, February and March. The 34,7% of the shootings were broadcasted in the morning whereas the percent of shotings in the afternoon was 21,5%. The percent of the evening broadcasts was 20,7%. Approximately half of the shootings (49,8%) were determined as news. This percent was followed by the health content broadcasts (27,9%). Almost all of the broadcasts were determined as informative type (99,3%). Over half of the broadcasts were found as recommendation (n=5.326; 51,2%).When the themes in the broadcasts were elaborated, the most elaborative subjects were nutrition (15,5%) and internal medicine / general surgery (14%). The follow-up subjects were beauty, care, losing weight and healthy life (9,8%), oncology and cancer (8,6%) and Ministry of Health (7,2%). When the sub categories of these primary themes were observed, it was determined that the general information was given (over 50%) in these informative expressions. A survey on 460 respondents who are selected via stratified sampling of whom 452 are found eligible to be analyzed. The respondents are required to answer 50 questions of which three on ordinal scale and the five are related to demographic characteristics of these respondents. The rest 42 are statements which are designed to reflect the purchase and usage behavior of high-tech products of these people. The study consists of five parts. The first part is an introduction where the scope and the purpose of the study are concisely stated. The second part relates to the theoretical background of the subject matter and the prior researches carried out so far. The third part deals with research methodology, basic premises and hypotheses attached to these premises. Research model and analyses take place in this section. Theoretical framework is built and a variable name is assigned to each of the question asked or proposition forwarded to the respondents of this survey. 42 statements or propositions given to the respondents are placed on a five-point Likert scale. Three statements are placed on ordinal scale and reflect the traits attached on hi-tech products ranking in terms of importance. The remaining five questions about demographic traits as age, gender, occupation, educational level and monthly income are placed either on a nominal or ratio scale with respect to the nature of the trait. Ten research hypotheses are formulated in this section. The fourth part mainly deals with the results of the hypothesis tests and a factor analysis is applied to the data on hand. Here exploratory factor analysis reduces 42 variables to seven basic components as "Technological innovativeness, perceived risks, creative reuse, consumer innovativeness, cognitive innovativeness, technology readiness and technological sophistication. Cronbach's Alpha for scale reliability is (? = 0.747) and the sample adequacy ratio (KMO ) is 0.938. In addition non-parametric bivariate analysis in terms of Chi-Square is applied to test the hypotheses formulated in this respect. The fifth part is the conclusion where findings of this survey is listed. Thus many companies have realized that sharing their innovations infers better position in the market. It indeed contributed to the widespread of this concept. Nonetheless this phenomena ? non episodically ? brings additional advantages for the company, such as exploitation of the own market with enhanced research capacity or building in originally not existed ideas to the current capital (Chesbrough, 2003).On the other hand, open innovation can be described as the flow of direct exploitation of knowledge for the sake of accelerating internal innovation along with expanding markets to its external applicability. On the market this philosophy appeared firstly with the open source software?s (West and Gallagher, 2004).In this manner, open innovation is a paradigm that assumes internal and external ideas are inseparably applied together when a company tends to develop technology, toolkit and communication. This business model is about to utilize even internally and externally created ideas to create values, simultaneously indicates internal movements to exploit a certain (created) value. As a result, open innovation brings significant advantages to the companies which become capable to obtain intellectual power from outside their boundaries (Gassmann, Enkel and Chesbrough, 2010).In Hungary, the idea of open innovation is widely supported by the innovation clusters (currently 23 are operating in Hungary). The target population of my research was made up of the accredited innovation clusters. The duration of data registration took place between July 2011 and May 2013, during which period a total of 21 innovation clusters earned the title accredited cluster. In my assessment I managed to contact 18 accredited innovation clusters, which is 85.71% of the entire target population (access rate). The result and practical significance of my study shows that innovation clusters are relevant organisational forms during the examination of open innovation. Because from networks they secure wider platform for cooperation; help the integrity of knowledge through collective projects and create trustful atmoshpere between the members using different communication technologies and practices. Currency without identified creator is appreciated by its user for non-centralized running, without any chance of governments to influence the money supply. The advantages of bitcoin, such as very quick payments worldwide, stop of inflations caused by governments trying to solve their own problems or high level of transactions privacy are widely mentioned. The aim of the article is not to describe the technical issue of bitcoin and explain how this system works, because it has been widely explained in other articles. The aim is focusing on economic aspects of bitcoin, the technical aspects are mentioned only if necessary. For accomplishing the aim the article is split in three parts. The first part is dedicated to answering the question ?What is bitcoin??. It examines whether bitcoin complies with theoretical, empirical and law definition of money. The law definition of money compliance is done for Czech, German and EU law in general, but attitudes of US and Chinese governments are also mentioned. According to the findings, bitcoin cannot be easily considered as money. The second part is focused on monetary aspects of bitcoin. It analyses the question, ?What would mean for an economy to accept bitcoin as legal tender??. In the case of single economy the money supply would be completely out of control of government and due to easy way of bitcoin transferring, money supply could be increased and decreased quickly. In the case of global economy, deflation and its impacts would be inevitable. The third part concentrates on bitcoin banking. No possibility of bitcoin lending does not mean the end of banking industry, but would probably lead to a significant change in how it works. A Case study of Skoda Auto Company Abstract: Large enterprises represent a key group for the economy of the Czech Republic. The aim of the study is to assess the influence of large enterprises namely Skoda Auto, a car manufacturer, on the socio-economic development of the Czech Republic. The study was prepared in response to the currently debated state aid rules, which significantly decrease the maximum public support for large enterprises. At the same time, relocation tendencies of large enterprises can be perceived. These tendencies are emerging, particularly in the manufacturing industry and are caused by various factors. In addition to the natural market factors, such as rising labor costs and high corporate taxes, there are also other non-market factors including in particular investment incentives, lower standards in social and environmental protection. Relocation tendencies are stronger in case of large (multinational) companies. In general, it is possible to mark the effect of large enterprises in the economy as very positive. Despite their relatively low share in terms of total number, they contribute significantly to employment, production and added value throughout the whole economy. Even small proportional changes in economic activities of large enterprises have significant impacts on public budgets and the involvement of SMEs in the export. Large businesses represent a significant demand for research and development results. Large enterprises make up the majority of foreign investment in supported sectors in the Czech Republic and have a major impact on an image of national economies. Investment incentives or any form of state aid therefore work as a tool for equalizing investment conditions in an environment where it is not possible to unify public investment support with countries outside the EU. The analysis will make a comparison with the Albanian system.Vision historical, social, political and constitutional development of the realities of the countries taken into account from the comparative study. CONCLUSIONS-With regard to the system of law and administrative process, France stands Albania is not in the conclusions in the premises. Both states are "on the administrative arrangements" in which there is a large body of rules of public law distinct from the common law. It is no coincidence, because in both national realities, the rule tends to be present and involved in many areas of social, welfare and economic conditions; which explains the existence of a special law for public administrations. In both countries, the role of the administrative judge is therefore evolving and increasingly requiring the ability to handle the difficult dialectic between authority and freedom. Title: Classroom practice in schools achieving high results at national tests in Norway Abstract: Standardised testing have become a common practice in most schools systems. In Norway, national tests are held in the 5th, 8th, and 9th grade in reading literacy, numeracy and English. Research point to the extensive focus on the tests, and how these testing regimes effect teaching and classroom activity (Berliner, 2011; Biesta, 2009). School achievement as in such standardised tests can often be explained by factors related to socioeconomic standards. Despite this, some schools in lower socioeconomic areas manage to achieve good results as well. The study presented in this paper, took its starting point in schools in lower socioeconomic areas where pupils, during the last three years, had achieved good results in the national tests. This might imply that these schools have succeeded in developing a classroom practice, which gives a good learning outcome for multiple pupils. The aim of the project was:?to describe and analyse classroom practice in schools which, over time, have succeeded in achieving good results in national tests?to identify conditions in such schools which are significant for the teachers? classroom practice and, thereby, in the learning outcome of the pupils.Taking the point of departure in Kemmis? (2009) theoretical concept ?practice architecture?, the project studied the practice itself, the understanding which is woven into the practice and the conditions for practice that exist in the school. The research strategy was case studies where each school constituted a case (Yin, 2009). Data collection methods were classroom observations and interviews with headmasters, teachers and pupils in seven schools in four provinces. The key results of the study show that these schools do not ?teach to test?. Test results are used to develop classroom practice through a collective oriented school culture characterized by collaboration, reflection and a strong and motivating leadership.ReferencesBerliner, D. Since a number of technical skills should be acquired through practice, this is a strong limitation for educational contexts where student?s time is a limited resource. The meta-instrument is a new paradigm for music instruments that overcomes these limitations and enables the student to instantly execute a music score without a specific training. Thanks to the natural ability of the human beings to tap the music, the meta-instrument moves the interaction level to the timing, the interpretation, and the natural interaction, embedding the pitch control in its smart logic implementation. The typical interaction of a natural user interface is applicable to a meta-instrument because it can emulate both a traditional music instrument and a virtual one. The student can play a music instrument regardless to the interaction mode, thus focusing on interpretation rather than on playing. The proposed meta-instrument framework refers to multiple and heterogeneous contents applying the specification of IEEE 1599, an XML-based standard for full representation of music. In our opinion, these values in case of the entrepreneurial behaviour are expressed as entrepreneurial values and factors of strategic orientations in the specific literature. Entrepreneurial orientation includes the dimensions of risk taking, innovativeness and pro-activeness. Learning orientation summarizes the factors of common vision, a commitment to business and the ability to accept bottom-up initiatives in a well-defined approach. We study these orientations because our goal is to describe the value structure of an innovative entrepreneurial behaviour what is desirable in a science park. At first, we investigated the difference between the values of Hungarian citizens and Hungarian entrepreneurs. After that, we assessed whether there is a difference of values among entrepreneurs who have different levels of entrepreneurial or learning orientation. Our results suggest that Hungarian entrepreneurs differ from other citizens in several dimensions of fundamental values, and they also differ in having different strategic orientations. The arising research question then is why has development been more proliferate in certain regions of the world and are there any strategies that might enhance growth in poorer regions? Whilst economic growth theory does not give a definitive solution to the problem neoclassical growth and endogenous growth theory provide clues to the necessary variables required for growth. Empirical studies show incongruity on the effects of trade liberalisation on economic growth. Furthermore, to the best of our knowledge, no studies have examined the impact of trade liberalisation within Southern African Customs Union (SACU) countries. In an effort to partially remedy this neglect we empirically estimate the dynamic causal relationships between economic growth and several trade liberalisation measures whilst controlling for growth factors. Study data is derived from the World Bank, Bruegel, and Penn World Tables national accounts data. Employing the Bounds Testing Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Approach to Cointegration, we quantify for the first time the relationship between trade liberalisation and economic growth in the SACU countries over a time frame ranging from 1980 to 2011. The framework for sustainable development is multidisciplinary, including actors from different fields as defined in the Triple Helix Model. In this paper, we illustrate alternative scenarios for sustainable business opportunities in a specific region in Finland called Western Uusimaa. As background information we have a survey data concerning companies? attitudes towards sustainable development which has been collected from 88 companies in different business fields. We also analyse the needs for skills and competences in alternative scenarios and make recommendations for actors in the business, society and university to meet those challenges.Western Uusimaa region and its business structure are in transition: many traditional industries do not operate there anymore and new businesses are more than welcome. One of the main driving forces shaping the operational environment is sustainable development. Therefore, green industry, cleantech and responsible business models are the elements of the renewal needed for the future. Our paper is based on an ongoing project which is figuring out the ecosystem of sustainable business in the Western Uusimaa and examining future sustainable business opportunities in the long run. The focus of this paper is on future business opportunities related to sustainable development. The methods used in the research are related to future studies and the timeframe is 20 years to the future. As a result we introduce alternative future scenarios for the sustainable business development. The scenarios are 1) Branded niche for the global market, 2) Competitive advantage from proactive innovations, 3) Develop or die and 4) Local train. Scenarios 1 and 2 are market driven whereas scenarios 3 and 4 are society driven. The content of the scenarios have supplemented with the core competence tree concept, especially focusing on roots, i.e. competences. Knowledge and skills, values and attitudes as well as contacts and experiences together form the set of core competences which are necessary in business development. According to results, most of the companies at least recognize the importance of sustainability and its role in the business. There also seems to be a real need to inform companies about the opportunities created by sustainable solutions. Networking and finding the right partners are essential when developing sustainable business. The co-operation of actors from all Triple Helix dimensions is needed when developing business opportunities within a regional sustainability cluster. There are a number of studies on OTOP Project , but most of them are presented with a case study and descriptive approach. The research question of this work involves the economic impact on workers working under the scheme. In this study, the research hypothesis is that the average income for workers exceeds U.S.$ 456.25 per year which is the line of curiosity established by the World Bank. On site surveys were conducted in 2012 in the whole nine provinces in the lower northern in Thailand. Primary data was obtained from questionnaire and interview by using the stratified random sampling technique with a sample size of 169. The questionnaire was prepared for workers working for the OTOP project focusing on the financial status of them. The results also revealed that the cost share distributed to workers was 25,279.3 baht; Furthermore, most of the workers were female who participated the project as the second job. The majority of them were 40 years of age and 88% of them were married. The educational background of the workers showed that 106 respondents (62.72%)finished primary school education . With the inferential statistics, the author had the statistical significant at 0.01 to conclude that the average additional income increased above the poverty line. Furthermore, we could be 95% confident that the interval 22,318.25 baht to 28,240.33 baht contained the mean annual income cost for labor. Therefore, this study explored the huge positive impact on the economic well being of the workers. So, the scheme like OTOP might be helpful for poverty reduction in Thailand. It is multifaceted but what is common among all community music activities worldwide is their primary purpose -the development of a society, community, or the person. Many meaningful initiatives which have used community music in the context of service learning initiated by the universities merit a purposive and deliberate evaluation not only to rationalize their significance but to identify and assess their outcomes which would eventually measure its impact or success. Using the objectives-based evaluation, the outcomes of the community music-service learning (CMSL) project conducted by a group of students of the University of the Philippines, mostly music education majors, were gathered and examined through semi structured interviews, feedback reports, post evaluation questionnaires and multimedia documentation of the community stakeholders. The university students, through a required tertiary course aimed at instilling sense of patriotism and service, known as the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), taught playing guitar and keyboard instruments to the children of ?Payatas Dumpsite? which is a huge urban poor community of families dependent on ?scavenging of dumpsites to cope with poverty. The community learners were children of 8 to 12 years of age who were beneficiaries of a non-governmental foundation, Payatas Orione Foundation, Inc. (PAOFI) feeding program when they were below 8 years. Results show outcomes which (1)support the intended learning objectives for the community learners and university students ; (2) underline the need for a better venue, more musical instruments to allow and encourage more students to participate (3) emphasize the need for sustainability built on thorough planning for a more enduring and intense learning and (4) highlight the ?joy? and sense of fulfillment in the participating children and in their parents. The study hopes to provides a preliminary and exploratory base for program evaluation which aims for sustainability by producing competent musicians in the said community and who in turn would be the teachers of their own community. The importance of SMMEs to the South African economy has already been acknowledged by government. Despite the growth in venture capital funding, access to funding remains a problem for small enterprises, in particular for empowerment groups in South Africa. In most surveys among small enterprises, the provision of concessionary finance comes out as one of the most urgently felt needs. Yet, extensive research reveals that access financing is one of the several important factors that are critical for business survival and growth, the other factors are market access and lack of financial management skills. South Africa?s financial sector has always been reluctant to provide comprehensive services for the fragmented, risk-prone and geographically dispersed small enterprises sector. One of the major hurdles that face entrepreneurship endeavours is the shortage of financial management skills. South Africa has a grim picture of the skills gap. SMMEs become the hardest hit as the entire commerce sector forages for the scarcest skills. Small enterprises have been victims of the instance of developing their employees only to lose them to bigger firms offering more lucrative incentives. As a point in case, SMMEs in South Africa?s expanding construction sector are losing the fight in the battle for scarce skills. Therefore, this study made an assessment on access to financial management services by SMMEs in Thohoyandou Business Centre, as this has a bearing on the economic development and sustainability of SMMEs. The research wanted to establish if the SMMEs in Thohoyandou Business Centre had access to financial management services support and, if they have, are the SMMEs ready to receive these financial management services? Reverse Pedagogy using flipped classroom is a teaching strategy based on a mode where the lecture part of the course is indirectly assigned to students in the form of homework, team projects, video listening or reports to do before meeting the classroom teacher. We have initiated a pioneering work in developing the flipped classroom approach in science and engineering integrating remote laboratory work strategy. In our model, students go through different modes. The proposed Multimode Mobile Learning (MML) model allows students to go through a multitude of modes to enhance their learning. They go from Problem Based Learning (PBL) mode to asynchronous and synchronous distance learning modes by performing team based remote laboratory. The use of mobile Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions has led us to describe our model as a Multimode Mobile Learning (MML) model. This innovative learning approach has been introduced in three different Quebec universities having specific context for each institution. Promising results have been obtained showing that the proposed MML model has a wide range of attributes allowing to enhance students learning interests and skills. However, previous studies failed to reveal the effect of corporate governance on accumulating distinctive capabilities that would be the source of competitive advantage. The rent appropriation perspective is applied in this study to consider the effect of corporate governance on accumulating firm-specific assets. The rent appropriation perspective advocated by Coff (2010) gives hints on considering this problem. Dynamic capabilities orchestrate and reconfigure the existing resources into new markets and coordinate appropriate distribution of resources into production factors. The consideration and discretion of the corporate board can lead to changing the allocation of these distinctive resources and accumulate distinctive capabilities. In other words, the configuration of corporate governance would discipline and stimulate innovation in the corporation. Corporate governance would be appropriate when this configuration fits for environmental demand. I have considered the strategic implications of corporate governance by studying recent corporate governance reforms in Japanese electronics corporations that have struggled in sluggish performance for many years. Using quantitative methods, this study has examined the interaction effects of ownership structure and growth opportunities on R&D investment mediated by the corporate board. It also explores the influence of the corporate board on accumulating firm-specific assets by employing firm-specific assets as variables. In this study, I have successfully revealed the mediating role of the corporate board in allocating corporate rent to stakeholders, which creates distinctive capability. Further, this study has found that coherent patterns among board governance structure and ownership characteristics and product architecture do exist. Innovation performance management of SBUs boosts corporation business results. In the present work, SBU ranking based on innovation performance was addressed. The contribution of the proposed model was threefold: (1) it proposed a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) for SBU ranking with triangular fuzzy numbers; (2) it provided a comprehensive and systematic framework that combined balanced scorecard (BSC) and fuzzy AHP; and (3) it explored practical application and illustrated the efficacy of the procedures and algorithms. It used a real-world case study in a large steel manufacturing company to present the applicability of the system. Finding SBU priorities would help the corporations to develop strategies and policies to manage and improve SBU performance. The fact that most of the weights of the principal sub-components of the composite indicators are equal, and that the determinants of well-being are, to a certain extent, correlated, makes the use of ranks of these sub-components in computing the country ranks of well-being indicators a valid approach. A comparison of the actual ranks with ranks computed as averages of the ranks of subcomponent indexes for three well-known indicators of well-being, Human Development Index, Legatum Prosperity Index, and Social Progress Index, shows that results are almost the same. This calls into question the use of weighted averages of actual values of sub-components, as very high values for a variable or sub-component increases a country?s relative rank, despite much lower performance on other sub-components. Our proposed approach will help achieve more robust/reliable rankings of countries and tackle the issues posed by extreme values or non-normal distributions of the sub-components variables used. Abstract: This is a quantitative research. It aims to examine public and police officers? views towards Thailand?s Border Patrol Police in three main areas as follows: 1) public satisfaction towards border patrol police?s services and practices, 2) public trust towards border patrol police?s image, 3) the confidence of police officers in general towards border patrol police?s image. This research explored satisfaction level of local people living in 2,470 target villages, the confidence level of public and police officer in general towards border patrol police. Data were collected through border patrol police working at local areas. The research outcomes could be concluded as follows: 1) Civilian participants were satisfied with service provision system, serious crime prevention strategies and border patrol tactics respectively. 2) The level of public satisfaction towards border patrol police?s image was rather high. More specifically, the participants were confident with border patrol police?s responsibility and good governance. According to the participants? background, it was clearly explicated that the participants with higher educational level were more confident than those with lower educational level. Regarding the participants? career, those, who were government officials, were more confident when compared to other careers. In regard to partakers? incomes, those who earned in the range 25,001 to 50,000 baht (around $834 to $1,667) had confidence level higher than those who had income beyond this range. 3) Related to the police officers? opinions towards border patrol police, they were similar to civilian participants? views. In other words, the police officers who participated in this survey were very satisfied with border patrol police?s activities and manners. It could be concluded that public and police officers? views towards Thailand?s Border Patrol Police were positive. It is about the role of informal settlements or shanty towns in waste management, particularly in prolonging the life of a landfill. It documents how government and local community partnerships contribute to waste minimization, in the short term and zero waste management, in the long run. This partnership, it is argued in the paper, contributes also to poverty alleviation for the communities who eke out a living by ?working on the dumps?. The argument in the paper is that the Rooikraal example serves as a demonstration project for simple and unsophisticated ways of managing household waste in South Africa and for other major cities in the country, in particular. There is an argument in the literature that marginalized groups still play a limited role in waste management even though they are the main consumers of waste that the richer sections of society generate. This paper concurs with the literature in finding that limited participation cannot be used to give local government the aura of democratic participation. There is a need to recognise the reclaimers as a legitimate constituency in the waste management systems in South Africa. The existence reasons of local administrations enforce some services which will be presented to public not by the government centre but by the public entities which are not included in centralized administration hierarchy and in centralized management organizations. There are two types of the term? decentralisation? which are governmental decentralisation and political decentralisation. If the authority transferred by centralized management is limited with legislation and to a certain degree with jurisdiction it is Political decentralisation which is special to federal states, if the authorities transferred by centralized management is limited only with enforcement it is governmental decentralisation. The first target to be reached in democracies is to make the public have rights in administration. The prior purpose in countries which has the tradition of democratic administration is to include the public in each step of administration and decision making. Public?s participation in administration process and public?s having rights in administration are easy is local administrations. In this direction, this study?s main subject will be local administration systems and the relation of systems with democratic administration. A huge amount of sponsoring, advertising, betting funds into football and also television rights are sold for billions of Turkish Liras. In order to compete better in Turkish league, football clubs have done considerable investments and have aspired to be listed on the stock exchange. The pioneer was Be?ikta? that went public in 2002. After that three football clubs were listed on Borsa Istanbul (BIST). The aim of this study is to evaluate the financial performance of four big (Be?ikta?, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray and Trabzonspor) football clubs listed on BIST from 2009-2010 to 2012-2013. In order to evaluate these clubs, Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) is used. GRA is widely used in various disciplines such as economics, engineering, sociology and finance. It can be used as a rating, classification and decision making technique to determine the important factors among those required for a system with a limited amount of data set. This study plans to shed light on the interrelationship between the determinants of Bid-Ask Spread and the firm's performance in Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) ; using a proposed model from previous studies which would be applied to introduce some factors that determines the spread ; such as firm's specific risk and security's characteristics ; the study investigates a theoretical considerations and empirically testing for such kind of relationship based on monthly basis by using a panel data framework on a sample of firms from Jordanian industrial sector ; which has a prominent effect on the market and the ability to influence the economy's financial stability. Consistent with previous studies, the results shows that some firm?s securities factors such as the price?s volatility have an inversely effect on bid-ask spread, while partialy inconsistent with some studies the trading activities has a negative impact , which could be refers to the critical changes on Joradanian Financial Market during the period of the study , however the firm?s factors have a significant role to effect this spread such as financial performance and ownership structure . Abstract: Guidance, mentoring, supervision and coaching are important areas of development in different types of professions. Several programs offer nowadays further education to adults who wish to improve their abilities to guide and coach. What characterizes these competencies in this specific program from the students? perspective and how do they develop their competence in this area? The focus will address the methodological challenge that the different roles of a researcher might create. The definition of the terms guidance, mentoring and coaching will subsequently be outlined in the course of the study. Definitions of these concepts differ in the literature, but some characteristics are present when we describe the process. Some characteristics are that the process is formal, pedagogical, client centred and based on voluntary interaction with other people. The focus is on empowerment, reflection and development of the client(s) (Tveiten (2006), Skagen (2011), Mc Leod (2007)).The purpose of this paper is to discuss and present preliminary results from an on-going research project about further education in guidance and coaching and the development of competencies in this area among the students. The teaching in this program is also the research field. Therefore, the students are co-researchers and participate in the data collection and data analysis. The group of students consist of professionals from different professions such as teachers, nurses and child protection educators. The theoretical framework of the study is social constructivism (Cresswell (2007)) and methodological approach in the frames of phenomenological and grounded theories building on both Moustakas and Charmaz. The research intends to answer questions such as: What is the meaning of mentorship for the students? What do the students think a mentor competency should consist of?How do students assess the program based on their experiences? The data for the study consist of students? logs, interviews with the students, video recordings of the students? mentoring at the workplace, texts from the students? exams, and the teacher?s own log after 2 years of teaching with the students. Nowadays the term? English language learning difficulty? is very important because English language is the communication language in each field. This difficulty is not realised only now it was already present years ago but now because of the educational demands these difficulties are becoming more and more foreground (Garcia, 2000). In addition, there are very limited researches on difficulties which children face in their schools in Turkey. Therefore this research aims to present what kind of difficulties students face during teaching-learning language process in Turkey. These difficulties are analysed in terms of students, families, teachers, head teachers and consultants. Semi-structured interview technique is used and to gain the data content-analysis technique is used. Concerns have however been raised regarding the cost of corporate governance compliance for smaller listed companies. Some countries allowed smaller listed companies some relief as to the corporate governance compliance. Examples includes the Advisory Committee on Smaller Public Companies in the US which recommended a three?tier governance and regulatory system for publically traded companies and the Combined code in the UK, which provided smaller companies some leeway with regard to board composition and the composition of audit and remuneration committees. The purpose of this study is twofold firstly to provide an overview of the corporate governance practices available in South Africa and secondly to investigate the corporate governance compliance of a sample of companies listed on the AltX in South Africa. The corporate governance indicators tested include inter alia the internal audit division, audit committees, boards of directors, the governance of risk and information technology. The results demonstrate substantial variation in rates of adoption of individual corporate governance recommendations. Overall the conformance with the corporate governance recommendations has increased over time. The AltX companies received a high level of disclosure on the statement of compliance with the King report, boards of directors, audit committee, integrated reporting and remuneration, whereas the governance of IT and internal auditing had relatively low adoption rates. The governance of risk and IT governance showed a significant increase in adoption rates in 2011 due to the King III recommendation regarding IT governance. Two areas namely IT governance and internal auditing had low adoption rates. India?s fossil fuel based energy-led economic growth and consequential carbon emissions are largely influenced by economic liberalization. In this paper, we have considered the twenty years per and post liberalization (1971-2010) and by formulation of an error correction model, we have demonstrated by the established causal associations among economic growth, drivers of growth, and negative consequences of growth undergo changes. This demonstration is based on three constructs associated with economic liberalization, namely industrialization, energy efficiency, and rural-urban migration. Analysis of missing feedback link in Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis using contextual interventions is the primary contribution of this paper in ecological economics literature. Accordingly, the purpose of our research was to find out what influence do the two important forces- family and government have on student?s academic achievement. Therefore our research was planned to have two stages. In study 1, we examined whether parental-psychological and financial involvement has an effect on student?s academic achievement. Specifically, we examine whether this involvement varies on different educational level and what are the primary priorities of parental investment and support. The survey has been carried out in the families where children, pupils of the final stage of high school or students live. The research method was a structural interview and it included the following general blocks: Demographic data of the family, period of Preschool education, Primary education, Basic education and Secondary education, Forms of parental involvement, Evaluation of academic and educational success of a student. In study 2, we tested what predictive value does the financial support, made by the government, has for the development of new generation. Specifically we tried to find out the relationship between the percentage of GDP of particular country that is issued for funding the general education and the general educational level of the country. In order to ascertain the common educational level of the countries, we have used the results of the international researches, such as PISA, TIMSS and PEARLS. Accordingly, the analysis of the finances, spent on secondary education by developed and developing countries, and the role of mentioned capital in determination of secondary education, were carried out within a research. The study revealed that Family involvement in the education of the child is playing very important role in his/her academic achievement. Specifically basic investment in the education of a child made by parents is expressed by the proposal of additional educational services and Additional educational service is changeable according to the stages of education; there is significant influence of parental Child rearing patterns on student?s achievement. Parental involvement types and strategies have a significant relationship with student?s academic success. Finances issued by government have the predictive value for the education level of the country. The study results have implication for professionals working in educational field. For this reason, dos could be defined as a maternal influence in family finance in Roman Law when it is evaluated in economic sense. Dos was also called as ?dowry?. At the beginning, giving dos was customarily, but later on it turned into be legal necessity. Every single thing that is included in a property could be given as dowry. Usually slaves, farms, certain amount of money were subject to dowry. But sometimes, ornaments were also given as dowry. Income-yielding property was the most welcomed dowry for the permanent household expenses. A chose in action could be also subject to dowry. Marriage without a dos was not welcomed.Women?s paterfamilias gave some property to the husband as dos which was also called marriage portion. By passing of the dos to the husband, the husband undertook a duty of assisting his wife in all respects which means both spiritually and materially. In this way, woman?s situation in the marriage was thought to be refined and thus she had a bastion in her husbands level of living. Coming to talk about the functions of dos; we shall classify its functions in two: Some legists say that ?dos? was given by the wife?s family to the husband in order to cover the expenses of the woman?s future family?s household. Another group of legists say that dos is important for that in case of divorce, woman has got the right of taking dos with her so it would guarantee her sustentation after marriage. Therefore dos is mainly regarded as a contribution for the expenses of household during marriage but dos is also regarded as a subsistence benefit for woman in case of the breaking up of the marriage. If we consider dos as a contribution for the expenses of household, we shall say that husband has the rights of using it so it belongs to husband. But if we consider dos as a subsistence benefit for woman in case of the breaking up of the marriage, then we shall say that husbands has less rights on it and dos belonges to woman in fact. Along with the law no. 6158 ?The Law About Amending the Decree-Law Concerning the Organization and Duties of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy and Changes in Some Laws and Decree-Laws? which went into effect by being released in the Official Gazette at February 19 2014, a set of new regulations also were made regarding the law no. 5651. This study aims to put forth how the new internet law is given meaning in the political discourses of the ruling and opposition parties. The TGNA minutes of general meeting were examined in the study so that the discourses of the ruling and opposition parties regarding the regulations made in the internet law could be analyzed. In the sessions realized between December 17, 2013 and February 28, 2014, all assessments conducted regarding the subject at hand were included in the study. The reason why the minutes of general meeting in between the suggested years were examined is due to the fact that a proposed law regarding a set of changes made concerning the internet law was presented to the general meeting by some congressmen of the ruling party at December 17, 2013 and that another proposed law was also presented to the general meeting by some congressmen of the ruling party at January 6, 2014. These proposed laws form a significant aspect of the discussions made regarding the new internet law. The study also contains an approximate 10-day process after the release date of the bill in order to set forth the reactions given subsequent to it taking effect by becoming a law. In order to put forth how the new internet law is given meaning in the political discourses of the ruling and opposition parties, the minutes of general meeting that provide an important data in examining the political speeches of politicians were analyzed pursuant to the relations put forth by the ideological discourse analysis. In the political speeches which is a form of political communication, how the subject is handled in the political discourses of politicians, how the actors are defined, how the politicians present their policies and the reality attempted to be created on these discourses were tried to be established. The population policies in Turkey from the beginning of the republic until 1965 called for an increase in population, but after that year the policies demanded that population be brought under control by reducing the population growth rate. Today it is claimed again that the population should increase. According to data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, the population of Turkey is expected to increase at a slow rate until 2050 and reach its highest point in 2050 with 93,475, 575 people. Expected to start decreasing by 2050, the population is anticipated to fall down to 89,172,088 in 2075. If current trends in demographic indicators remain the same way, it is predicted that population in Turkey will continue ageing. This situation is marked as a problematic issue by the government; Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, the leader of Justice and Development Party (AKP) and Prime Minister advices that each family have at least three children. This study is intended to put forward how the discourse of ?three children? of the prime minister was presented in media texts and what kind of discourses were produced out of the three children discourse. The texts that were taken up for this analysis are all newspaper columns. Columns of four national and daily newspapers with different ideologies (Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet, Sabah, Yeni ?afak) were analyzed with a time period from the year 2008 when the prime minister started this discourse of three children until today. In the study, critical discourse analysis was used in an effort to point out how the discourse of ?three children? of the prime minister was depicted in newspaper columns and the types of discourse that were generated through this issue in the same columns. Critical discourse analysis provides important data in bring out the ideologies that are re-produced by way of discourse in media texts, in determining around what themes any given subject is presented in media discourse, and finally in identifying the relationships between media-government-ideology and discourse by way of analyzing ideological representation through texts. Empirical results from the DACH-Region and implications for a future development of the HR profession. Abstract: The roles and activities of human resource management (HRM) have changed a lot in the past years. Driven by a changing environment the scope of human resource (HR) activities has widened. Besides cost efficiency, optimisation and service-orientation of the HR processes, the development of the employees became more and more important. Today, the demographic change and skill shortages cause new challenges for companies and their human resource management. The strategic alignment of the HR activities and the development of sustainable HR strategies are crucial to ensure the long-term success of a company. This strategic focus of HR has been discussed in science for many years. But what about the implementation of this strategic focused HR as a business practice? This quantitative survey examined the extent of the current strategic focus of HR activities in the three DACH-region countries. A comparison of their current HR business practices is of particular interest, as they are strongly economically and culturally connected and there is a lively exchange of employees. The following questions led the survey: ?What is the current focus of the HR activities in the DACH-region? ?How does this affect the resources dedicated to the different HR roles? ?Are there any differences in the focus of the HR activities within the DACH-region? The results indicate that there was a major shift regarding the focus of HR activities. In all three countries HR is now mostly seen as an employee champion, coming from an administrative, process oriented HR understanding. The strategic aspect of HR roles also evolved remarkably. And as the results show that shift is not yet completed. The most important driver for the change is the increasing competences of the HR professionals. Regarding the intercultural aspect it is remarkable, that despite these development most of the HR functions are not seen as management positions in Germany and Austria. As strategic management is mostly a management and top-management issue, the importance of HR roles has to evolve. Therefore it is important to strengthen the HR roles as management positions and to increase the strategic and management competences of HR employees. This first study will be followed by an international study on HR roles and HR competencies in the 21st century. An HR competency model will be developed which will be tested in Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. First insights will be presented. A survey is applied to 480 respondents selected via stratified sampling from Eski?ehir, a city of Turkey with 700.000 inhabitants where 470 of the responses are found eligible... The respondents are required to answer 50 questions of which five are related to demographic characteristics of these respondents. The rest 45 are statements which are designed to reflect the behavior of these people. Three questions are on an ordinal scale reflecting the most-used information sources of the respondents. Here exploratory factor analysis reduces 42 variables to eight basic components as: " Nutritional knowledge, nutritional labels and health claims; care for health products; consumer positive and negative attitudes toward organic foods; fast-food involvement; prior product knowledge; e-health information search; information search behavior; and system beaters". In addition non-parametric bivariate analysis in terms of Chi-Square is applied to test the hypotheses formulated in this respect. The fifth part is the conclusion where findings of this survey is listed. Language Mistakes and Effective Teaching Strategies Abstract: Grammar mistakes are a natural part of language acquisition. In order to prevent them different teaching strategies are recommended. The aim of this study was to find out what are the causes of grammar mistakes, what practices teachers use to correct students? mistakes and which strategies are considered to be the most effective to prevent students? mistakes at basic school. Twenty-five Estonian language teachers were asked to describe their teaching and prevention strategies. The quantitative content analysis indicated three types of teachers ? those who preferred either inductive, deductive or combined strategies. Teachers with a deductive profile were considered to be the most efficient in supporting students? recalling and remembering skills. European (CEE) region. Its background means an analysis related to the automotive industry, which is a part of a large Hungarian, EU supported research project*. Let her sleep, for when she wakes, she will shake the world.? In 2008, American prize Nobel of economics, Joseph Stiglitz asserted that no society in human history has undergone such a rapidly transformation as China did in the last 15 years. Indeed, the economic performance of China in the last 35 years marveled the world at many levels. Not surprisingly, the United States follow with great interest the rise of China as the latter plays an increasingly international role. As a result, the American authorities have multiplied meetings with Chinese leaders to strengthen their bilateral relations. Enhancing the importance of the meetings of the G-20, Washington has implicitly acknowledged that China has become a major player in the global economy. Meanwhile, China has surpassed Japan to become the second largest economy in the world. In addition, the rise of China has been so rapid that many observers are questioning whether or not China would overtake soon the United States to make the 21st century a Chinese century as the 20th century was an American one. Since the second half of the 1980s, the rapid expansion of global value chains due to the emerging North-South production sharing have been facilitated by the growing number of regional economic initiatives. In this study, the ASEAN?s regional economic initiatives/agreements are examined to assess the role of economic regionalism in the attraction of FDI and the spread of production networks. The economic cooperation of the ASEAN countries can be divided into two periods. Between 1976 and 1987, the ASEAN?s regional cooperation was aimed at achieving import substituting industrialization. Since the late 1980s, the regional initiatives and agreements of the ASEAN countries have been embedded in an export-oriented, FDI-dependent strategy. The shift in the regional economic cooperation from import substitution to export-oriented and FDI-based strategy was tiggered by the emerging market-led integration in the region. In the second half of the 1980s, efficiency-seeking FDI started to increase in Southeast Asia. Northeast Asian, American and European transnational corporations have created production networks in electronics, automotive and textile/garment industries in the ASEAN region. In the last two decades, the main aim of ASEAN?s regional agreements and intiatives was to transform the region into a single market and production base which is attractive for foreign direct invetments and where production networks can work efficiently. The birth and/or the acceleration of liberalization efforts of several regional initiatives/agreements (e.g. AFTA, AFAS, AICO, AIA) can be linked to the period of 1997-2003, when due to the Asian financial crisis, FDI inflows into the ASEAN region decreased and later stagnated. In 2003, ASEAN agreed on the creation of ASEAN Economic Community by 2015 which is based on former regional initiatives and agreements. The efforts for accelerating regional integration contributed to the fact that ASEAN managed to increase its share in global FDI inflows in the last decade. In 2012, FDI inflows into ASEAN reached a record level. Nowadays, ASEAN countries can draw together nearly as much FDIs as China does. The work is considered to develop a partial stock adjustment model which shows that there are some variations existing in the equilibrium FDI stocks of the regions of Thailand between 1985 and 2012, whereas it appears that there is a convergence among zones in each region of the country as can be seen in the deviation of actual FDI stock from equilibrium stock over time. A partial stock adjustment model is then developed following Chen and Kwan (2000) to help investigate the level of regional convergence in capital stocks arising from FDI. The model implies that investment authorities should implement policies to potentially FDI stocks either by production zones or clusters orientations. Polytechnics in Singapore were set up with the mission to train professionals to support the technological and economic development of Singapore. Intrinsic motivation (IM) is tapped in the project work of a 3rd year module ET0706 Object Oriented Programming (OOP, in Java) in DCPE (Diploma of Computer Engineering) at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Singapore Polytechnic. Performance approach goals were set for the students who are high in achievement orientation; while mastery approach goals were set for the students low in achievement orientation. In this paper, it is presented how RAMP (Relatedness, Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose) of IM elements are implemented into the module project work to motivate students high in achievement orientation to acquire advanced knowledge and apply it in challenging real-life projects, such as those involved in serving the community; in the meantime, motivate students low in achievement orientation to focus on foundation knowledge through applying it in solving real-life problem with adequate challenge. It is concluded that it is effective to apply IM to motivate students and get them to be work ready, future ready and world ready.
