Abstract: This paper examines whether managers of cross-listed firms improve corporate investment efficiency through learning from the stock market upon cross-listing. Using a sample of UK firms cross-listed on US regulated and unregulated stock markets, we find that cross-listed firms on unregulated markets invest more efficiently than non-cross-listed firms following cross-listing. The analysis of pre- and post-cross-listing shows that cross-listed firms improve their investment efficiency post cross-listing regardless of the location of cross-listing (i.e. regulated versus unregulated exchanges). Furthermore, we find firms with low level of private information embedded in their stock prices, and firms with higher board independence improve their investment post cross-listing. Our findings suggest that managers of cross-listed firms are guided by firm-specific characteristic more than by stock market signals when they embark on new investment projects. Moreover, we find evidence that cross-listed firms on regulated exchanges perform poorly after cross-listing, whereas those cross-listed on unregulated exchange experience high performance post cross-listing. This indicates that the listing and regulatory requirements imposed on cross-listed firms by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) do not effectively deter managers from investing in value-destroying projects. The authors provide information on taking an interdisciplinary approach to teaching in various settings outside of the classroom. Through discussion and practical examples, they share how such activities not only enhance student knowledge but also provide students with the opportunity to ask questions, engage in discussion, and practice what they are learning as well as reinforces reading and in-class discussion. The areas of examination include community service, active learning, and service learning. The first example explores having students volunteer at a community feeding event. The second example reviews how students work together at an escape room. The third and final example explores how students interact with one another and workers during visits with community partners. What emerges are additional modalities to enhance learning. First, principal components are extracted from returns. Results show that, for the period analyzed, there is no strong global stock market integration and there isn't any change in patterns of correlations of returns except short-term disturbances in global financial crisis time. Second, partial least squares regression models are used for predicting each stock market returns with other stock markets' current and all markets' up to three month lagged returns. Results identify divergence between developed and emerging markets and greater number of latent transmission channels among former ones. Findings indicate a strong integrity among global stock markets is not yet appeared and considered together with previous studies, today's international market structure can be attributed to last two decades of 20th century. China stock market has a disparate position than all other stock markets and deserves further interest. The coefficient parameter is evaluated by maximum likelihood, ridge regression, markov chain monte carlo methods. The logistic regression is considered the correlation between binary dependent variable and 2, 3, and 4 independent variables which is generated from normal distribution, contaminated normal distribution, and t distribution. The maximum likelihood estimator is estimated by differential the log likelihood function with respect to the coefficients. Ridge regression is to choose the unknown ridge parameter by cross-validation, so ridge estimator is evaluated on a form of maximum likelihood method by adding ridge parameter. The markov chain monte carlo estimator can approximate from Gibbs sampling algorithm by the posterior distribution based on a probability distribution and prior probability distribution. The performance of these method is compare by percentage of predicted accuracy value. The results are found that ridge regression are satisfied when the independent variables are simulated from normal distribution, and the maximum likelihood outperforms on the other distributions. This research presents a comparative study of three different forecasting methods based on the monthly incidence of dengue hemorrhagic fever. Holt and Winters method, Box-Jenkins method and Artificial Neural Networks were compared. The data were taken from the Bureau of Epidemiology, Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health starting from January, 2003 to December, 2016. The data were divided into 2 sets. The first set from January, 2003 to December, 2015 were used for constructing and selection the forecasting models. The second set from January, 2016 to December, 2016 were used for computing the accuracy of the forecasting model. The forecasting models were chosen by considering the smallest root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) were used to measure the accuracy of the model. The results showed that Artificial Neural Networks obtained the smallest RMSE in the modeling process and the MAPE in the forecasting process was 14.05% Length: 10 pages Creation-Date: 2018-06 Publication-Status: Published in Proceedings of the Proceedings of the 35th International Academic Conference, Barcelona, Jun 2018, pages 29-38 File-URL: https://iises.net/proceedings/35th-international-academic-conference-barcelona-spain/table-of-content/detail?cid=64&iid=007&rid=9199 File-Function: First version, 2018 Number: 6409199 Classification-JEL: C22, C45 Keywords: Dengue hemorrhagic fever, Time Series Forecasting, Holt-Winters method, Box-Jenkins method, Artificial Neural Networks Handle: RePEc:sek:iacpro:6409199 Template-Type: ReDIF-Paper 1.0 Author-Name: Mehmet Basar Author-Name-First: Mehmet Author-Name-Last: Basar Author-Email: mbaser@anadolu.edu.tr Author-Workplace-Name: Anadolu University Title: Obstacles For Academic Entrepreneurship in Turkey Abstract: Today, as a result of the knowledge economy, universities are focusing more on creating commercial knowledge along with their primary tasks ? education and research. Increasing demand for university-industry collaboration, universities? new roles in the economic development through technology transfer, and commercialization of knowledge are among the major factors that lead to concepts such as ?entrepreneurial university? and ?academic entrepreneur?. Academic entrepreneurship is actually a wider concept that covers all the efforts and activities toward the commercialization of the scientific research outputs of the universities and their industrial partners. In Turkey, Supreme Council for Science and Technology supports academic entrepreneurship activities and encourages potential academic entrepreneurs through various support mechanisms. However, there are many problems that academic entrepreneurs encounter and this study aims to discuss possible solutions for these problems and obstacles. In this research, regime structure of BIST-100 Index, which is one of the most intensively traded index of Borsa Istanbul, has been analyzed by Markov Regime Switching (MRS) Model. It will be determined the number of regimes of BIST-100 Index by using a daily closing value data set from 03.01.1997 to 31.07.2017 (4951 daily data). Firstly, return series of BIST-100 Index is calculated as percentage for analyzes then MRS model applied to this series in order to detect the number of regimes. Based on the findings, it has been determined three different regimes for BIST-100 Index. All of these regimes, which were defined as, low, normal and high regimes statistically significant at %5 significance level. Upon investigating the transition probabilities of MRS model, BIST-100 Index is generally observed to indicate a tendency towards a shift to normal regime. According to transition probabilities results, while the index is in the high regime, it prefers to stay in the high regime with a probability of 19.9%, wants to shift from high regime to normal regime with the probability of 64.96% and wants to shift from high regime to low regime with the probability of 15%. Providing that the index is within the normal regime, next period index will remain in the normal regime with %97.5 probability while ?t will shift from normal regime to low regime with %1.5 probability. In addition, it was detected that the possibility of index shift from normal regime to high regime is %1. When the regime is low, on the other hand, next period it will be the same as %24.31 probability while the regime will shift from low to high with %17.8 probability. The probability of shift from low regime to normal regime is %57.86. After determined the transition probabilities of indices, it was also calculated the expected durations of each regime separately. Findings have indicated that, duration of low regime is 1,32 days and high regime is 1.24 days whereas expected duration of normal regime is 41.22 days. Finally, BIST-100 Index is proposed as one of the indices that can be invested due to the normal regime structure for investors who do not prefer to take the risk and seek stability. Push-Back Operations Abstract: Since the conflict began in 2011, an estimated 5 million people have fled Syria by land and sea in order to survive. The Aegean sea from Turkey to Greece has become one of the popular and deadly routes for asylum-seekers and migrants to reach Europe since then. In 2015, while more than 851.000 asylum seekers entered to Greece via the Aegean sea route. The number of the irregular migrants coming to the European Union has begun to threat the area of freedom, security and justice which is established to enable its citizens to exercise their free movement rights. The principle of non-refoulement which prohibits the expulsion, deportation, or return of a refugee to a state where refugee?s life would be in danger is accepted by most States, including the EU in accordance with the protection of human rights. At this point a dilemma has appeared for the EU. While preventing the entrance of the irregular migrants to the area of freedom, security and justice via push-back operations in Aegean on the one hand, the breach of non-refoulement principle occurs on the other.Because of the reasons above, this paper aims to examine the breach of non-refoulement principle via push-back operations in the Aegean Sea and determine the responsibility of States stemmed from the principle in the light of international law. LEFT BEHIND BY OFW PARENTS Abstract: Students nowadays are experiencing school life without the presence of their parents. While many children have experienced a decline in classroom performance while parents are away, many were also found to have performed excellently through various mechanisms. This study investigates the influence of coping mechanisms towards the academic performance of students with OFW parents. A survey was conducted to students who were academically high performing for the school year 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. A total of 142 students from Catholic schools in Davao del Sur were given questionnaires and ten underwent the Key Informant Interview. Using Multiple Regression Analysis, it was determined that of the eight coping mechanisms tested only three were found to be significant, namely: active coping, planning and the use of instrumental support. Based on the findings, it is recommended that schools must define policies that would support the creation of a separate program for students with OFW parents with the emphasis on the significant predictors. Title: Carbon Tax in Turkey Abstract: Climate change and environmental pollution are important problems need to be tackled all around the world. These problems make countries to create new implementations to reduce environmental pollution and to figure out climate change issue. Taxation is one of the most common tools of these implementations. Especially beginning from the 1990s, the carbon tax has been come into prominence in practice to abolish environmental problems and to ensure sustainability in this regard. Carbon tax was introduced firstly in Finland and it is in practice in many countries all around the world. In Turkey, there is no taxation called carbon tax but practices have been conducting tax regulations to reduce emission. In this study, carbon tax which might take place among tax regulation in Turkey is evaluated. As a result, it has been detected that carbon tax can be one of the most important political tools to solve environmental issues such as greenhouse gas emissions reduction even it has pros and cons. One of the key challenges is to resolve an everlasting conflict between central and subnational government tier related to different perspectives of each jurisdiction. Namely, central government level is more concerned for macroeconomic position and usually is more inclined to centralise debt management and limit borrowing powers of subnational government. On the other hand, subnational government utilizes borrowing for large local communal infrastructure needs but faces short-term perspective of political mandate, which demands control aimed for prevention of excessive borrowing. In addition, heterogeneity of local governments in terms of fiscal capacity and fiscal position makes general deficit sharing mechanisms as poor solution to intergovernmental fiscal management. General deficit sharing mechanisms usually base on fixed budgetary limits, which do not enable control for weak subnational government units and exert too high limitations for more progressive ones. Introduction of more precise dynamic fiscal rules, which account for specific fiscal standing of each local government and fiscal system, would provide incentive for more productive borrowing policies. Such mechanism overcomes short-term financing perspective that comes from short-term political horizon and mid-term focus of budgetary documentation. The results of the research brings clear policy recommendations. It is possible to replace existing deficit sharing mechanisms by more productive and efficient dynamic system. This would bring not just improved debt management control but provide incentive for more efficient borrowing. Regional integration of separate countries, regions or groups of countries has also become stronger. Deeper economic integration of the countries has changed the conditions of international trade. Timely adaptation to the change in the international trade conditions is the essential condition of sustainable development of international trade linked to the more rapid economic growth of countries. The paper performs the Lithuanian agricultural and food sector in the changing international trade conditions during the period of 1999-2014. Analysis of the international trade of Lithuanian agricultural and food products divided into three phases. The first phase covers the period from 1999 to 2003 (before Lithuania's accession to the EU). The second phase covers the period from 2004 to 2008 (trade peak since joining the EU by 2008 the global economic crisis). In addition, the third stage includes the period from 2009 to 2014 (recovery after the crisis period). Market openness effect on agrifood trade of Lithuania measured by Open Trade Index (OTI). OTI formula adopted for agricultural sector performance analysis. The net effect of the EU membership evaluated. Suggested approach shows the complexity of the international trading system and specifies the further development of export direction. This paper aims to fill this gap by examining the influence of ECB monetary policy on 46 small open economies? stock markets around the world. Using the data from the Swiss Economic Institute?s Monetary Policy Communicator (MPC), a differentiation is made between ECB actions and future policy communication effects. Contractionary ECB monetary policy proves to exert a negative impact on stock markets worldwide, with the results being statistically significant for 41 out of 46 countries. A positive 50 b.p. shock to the ECB interest rate leads to a 2.9% fall in stock markets on average when looking at the two-months window after the shock. A corresponding shock to the MPC index results in a 4.2% fall. Results imply that the inclusion of communication variable is crucial for estimating the full effects of ECB monetary policy. During the last decades, the need to do things differently has increased, either by reversing climate change, creating more inclusive societies or reducing poverty. Therefore, both the public and private sectors consider Social Innovation as a tool that allows generating innovative solutions to problems such as poverty reduction and the improvement of the living conditions of the population. In response to these challenges, Social Innovation has become a relevant topic of research for the research community, academics, politicians, networks, funds and government institutions that have focused their policies specifically on the support and promotion of these innovations aimed at the generation and implementation of new ideas to solve challenges in communities within social systems. For the case of Higher Education, it is particularly interesting, given that these institutions not only have the purpose of transmitting knowledge, but also create economic and social value through the transfer of their teaching and research results to the community. During the last decades, given the international declarations on Higher Education of UNESCO (1998 - 2009), the awareness of the universities has increased with respect to their responsibility to put at the service of the whole community their knowledge and resources. Likewise, they must assume the challenge of articulating knowledge with society to generate the conditions that the world of the 21st century really demands. Exposed the above, social innovation has ceased to be an alternative to become a priority in the agenda of foundations, organizations and companies and of course Universities as engines of economic and social development. Based on a review of the Scopus database and the analysis of the 53 most cited articles, we can be conclude that the research and development of the Living Labs concept has been taken off since 2006 and to date, in terms of quality and academic impact, remains insignificant The review of Living Labs requires to be identified in the scientific literature: 17 definitions, 20 concepts, 4 predecessors, 5 elements, 7 characteristics, 4 types, 4 archetypes, 20 benefits, 3 streams, 3 levels and 17 roles of innovation intermediaries. This study identified three methodologies that allow us to understand the methodological processes for the creation of Living Labs from the quasi-experimental perspective, the innovation phases and the development of the projects-based in ICT. The information contained in this literature review allows us to understand the evolution of the theoretical concept of Living Labs over time, as well as the variables that intervene in the characterization of these innovation ecosystems from the open innovation approach. This study examined psychological outcomes of long-term unemployment on young people in Georgia who have already completed their initial education (vocational or higher). In this research 108 young people aged 18-29 were interviewed. The unemployed participants reported a high level of learned helplessness, which was related to the different types of stress coping strategies. This study also identified the high level of well-being associated with emotional oriented stress coping, high level of learned helplessness and the passive attempt to get a job, which also was predicted. The study results suggested that young people who already have got bachelor?s degree still consider themselves as not educated enough for employment. They use self-distraction coping strategy and prefer to attend seminars, training courses to increase their level of education instead of attempting to get a job. The results also showed that relationship between active coping and life satisfaction was positive as well as a denial and low level of well-being scale. Overall, people who have never been employed have better results of life-satisfaction scale than those people who lost their jobs. Not much attention has yet been paid in global researches to those markets for corporate control which are at earlier stage of development than highly mature markets with long history, such as the US, UK, Germany, or Japan. The primary purpose of the research is to identify the factors determining the level of activity on the M&A market in Poland, the leading M&A market among CEE countries. Analysis covers the impact of factors identified in prior researches conducted on mature corporate control markets on the degree of activity on the M&A market, as well as unique factors selected for the Polish market. According to the prevailing theoretical paradigm, particular markets - due to their institutional environment and degree of development - have a specific set of factors that determine their tendency for exogenous growth and acquisitions by other market players, such as investment funds or individual investors. Research commences with structuring, classification and analysis of the current state of knowledge. With the use of descriptive methods, the objective of identifying and characterizing the collection of universal factors determining M&A market activity has been achieved. Reasoning on specific research problems has been proceeded using deduction, followed by statistical analysis to test the formulated hypothesis. With the use of relevant statistical and econometric methods, including multiple regression analysis, a relationship has been sought between the number of M&A transactions in Poland and the previously identified and selected explanatory variables and groups thereof. The results of regression analysis have been supplied with results of relative value analysis in order to determine, whether importance of national specific factors in explaining the dynamics of M&A deals is greater than universal factors. Both the applied methodology and the extent of contemplated research in terms of space and time is innovative for an emerging M&A market. Unlike such areas as transaction efficiency, choice of payment method in acquisition, or business valuation in M&A processes, no comprehensive research has yet been carried out on factors determining the activity on the Polish corporate control market involving state-of-the-art econometric analysis. This case study explains how adaptation process is related to social identity transformation among eco-migrants settled in Tsalka, Georgia. Tsalka is a town in eastern Georgia with a multi-ethnic population (Georgians, Armenians, Greeks, and Azerbaijanis). It has been a location where eco-migrants from mountain regions of Georgia rushed into and settled in 1997-2006. 32 eco-migrants from 20 households participated in in-depth interviews. The results showed that there are two types of eco-migrants: with state shelter and private accomodation. Besides that initial ethnic conflicts between eco-migrants and host inhabitants ended up having a positive impact on the adaptation process. Eco-migrants who have the private property and stable jobs have a better chance for adaptation and in general, they described themselves as satisfied in their lives. Overall, the present study suggests that well-adapted eco-migrants have multiple identities, they perceive themselves as a part of a new community and at the same time, they can?t forget their old ??roots??, as they say, which is related to their welfare. Filmmaking Workshops for Pediatric Cancer Patients Abstract: It goes without saying that any cancer experience may result in a psychological trauma and become an emotional challenge for both the patient and her/his family. It may be argued that it is even more traumatic when it affects children. In my presentation I will focus on a relatively new idea of using film education as an element of psychiatric therapy of pediatric cancer patients.Although filmmaking arose from cinema therapy, which uses film projections during psychotherapy sessions, it has evolved into a form requiring the active involvement of patients in filmmaking. As a form of artistic expression it creates an opportunity for the patient to vent their fears and stress in a creative way (well-known art therapy profits) but it also constitute key elements of achieving resilience. I would like to have a closer look at the basic meaning, conceptualization as well as the goals of resilience theory. By emphasizing the importance of positive factors and mechanisms, resilience theory explains the phenomenon of children?s, adolescents? or adults? positive adaptation despite adverse life conditions, traumatic events and hostile environments. The filmmaking workshops for pediatric cancer patients of the Foundation for Children with Cancer Diseases ? Blood Cell (Fundacja dla Dzieci z Chorobami Nowotworowymi ? Krwinka) organized in 2015, 2016 and in 2017 (in cooperation with a psychotherapist working with children and their families) became for me an opportunity to implement my theoretical research, confronting theory with practice as well as for my further studies in this field. The so-called ?Regional R&D Centers? are equipped with R&D equipment and aim to support R&D activities of the small and medium sized enterprises in the nearby regional industry cluster. Since 2006, more than 582 facilities have been established using more than 10 billion USD. However, there are many debates on the efficacy of the regional R&D centers. In this study, we analyzed the success factors of the selected regional R&D centers using DEA and tobit regression. To measure the efficiency of the regional R&D centers using DEA, we selected budget invested, man-power and operation duration as the input variables and the number companies who utilized the facilities, number of utilization and awareness among the cluster as the output variables. The results showed that the efficiency of the regional R&D centers depends on the types of the host institute of the regional R&D center. We tested the relationship between the efficiency measured by DEA and factors in the planning and operation stages of the centers and environmental factors like GRDP. The tobit analysis showed that the number of partner institutes has strong positive influence to the efficiency in all the efficiency models. The location and support of operational expenses also showed positive influence in some models. The policy implication as well as detailed analysis procedure and results will be discussed in the presentation. Abstract: This paper relies on the idea that culture has several layers which can be separated on the basis of the degree of stickiness between a particular cultural component and formal institutions. This procedure, by allowing us to focus on more specific questions as to how culture affects development, helps improve the somewhat controversial empirical results of the literature. As an extension of the theory of institutional stickiness (Boettke et al. 2008), I distinguish two cultural layers: a rigid and a slow-moving layer. The rigid layer includes values reflecting the most basic norms, judgments, and beliefs, which do not change. The slow-moving layer includes those cultural components that depend upon individuals? circumstances and the prevailing institutions, and can change if these change. The degree of stickiness between the slow-moving layer and institutions is very high because institutions find their roots directly in that cultural layer. However, the rigid layer and institutions are a bit ?farther? from one other, which allows a certain degree of divergence from a perfect correspondence between them. In the cross-country empirical analyses, including IV estimations, I check the hypotheses derived from this stickiness model, and focus on how a particular cultural layer operating in conjunction with institutions affects development. When it comes to the rigid layer proxied by individual values (Schwartz 1999), besides establishing that both values and institutions are strong determinants of development, I also find that their interaction acts as a separate factor. This means that values are not fully embodied in institutions. The effect of the slow-moving layer proxied by trust (WVS), however, is very different: trust does not exert an impact on development once institutions are controlled for, and there is no interaction between them, meaning that trust is crystallized in institutions. The results are very robust to alternative variables and specifications. In this course students learn skills to design, manage, and improve business processes. One of the tools used for designing and documenting business processes is EPC diagrams. The textbooks covering this tool/technique provide a description of the tool including its purpose and one or more EPC diagrams for sample processes. The textbooks however do not provide logic used at each step of the solution development process making it almost impossible for a student to learn the tool by simply reading the book. An instructor may create an EPC diagram in class for a sample process and while developing it may explain the logic used at each step. Even though a student may understand how to use the tool when it is explained in class, the student may forget it after some time and other than their class notes there is no repository for them to go to after class. Furthermore, it would difficult for a student to draw EPC diagram with the instructor and take notes also about the logic used. And students, who miss the class for some reason, have no place to go to find detailed information about it. We present use of screencasts in explaining how to develop an EPC diagram. This audio-visual presentation can help students learn at their own pace and since it is made available in the repository, students who miss class or are not good at taking notes or tend to have relatively short memory can play it later just before doing a related assignment or exam to refresh the concepts. In particular, based on the study of business entities in Georgia it analyzes and assesses the process of value chain formation and role of the involved stakeholders that increase the product value for the consumers through organized cooperation.Value chain connects the raw material producers, middlemen, processing enterprises, sales markets, service providers and different parties, whose activities promote competitiveness of one another at marketplace and its maintenance through introduction of innovations in the processes of value chain. Value chain management is the instrument of strategic business analysis and planning that is used for coordination of the value chain components and resources. Effective management of value chain directly affects profitability of the involved stakeholders and satisfaction of consumers. The work demonstrates the main challenges hindering development and effectiveness of agribusiness management in Georgia, including land fragmentation, low availability of advanced technologies, lack of business management awareness and skills, poor organization of logistics and supply process, low opportunities of negotiating and performing agrarian marketing etc.Within the scopes of the research various cases of the agricultural cooperatives involved in the sector were studied and business cycles of priority sectors of Georgian agriculture were surveyed. Work was prepared on the basis of in-depth interviews with the industry experts, agribusiness managers and parties involved in the value chain. Secondary data (desk research) were collected through studying of the publications related to the issue and value chain reports.Seasonality of raw materials production and their insufficiency was found to be one of the main causes of instability of value chain and supply chain in agriculture sector. Participants of value chain do not perceive one another as partners and do not care properly about the quality stability thus reducing competitiveness of their businesses. In the process of research the emphasis was made on the problems of value chain management. In agribusiness, necessity of formation and setup of the full production chain allowing significant reduction of production costs was identified as one of the significant directions for production growth and development.Recommendations offered by the work would contribute to improvement of value chain management in agribusiness, in Georgia. The primary objective of this study was to identify students? experience of collaborative learning methods applied in Hospitality Financial Management 1. A descriptive study using an existing questionnaire was used to collect data from 220 Tshwane University of Technology students. The questionnaire was distributed electronically using survey-monkey. Descriptive data-analysis techniques were used. In general, students expressed satisfaction with the collaborative learning experience as well as with the teaching aids employed. Most students disagreed that their group marks were lower than those they would have attained on their own. Equal numbers of respondents experienced either satisfaction or frustration during the collaborative learning experience. Additionally, we introduced three types of job crafting; crafting towards strengths, crafting towards interest, and developmental crafting. We hypothesized that participating in a job crafting intervention will lead to elevated levels of job crafting, which in turn will promote work engagement. Moreover, we state that the indirect effect of the intervention will be influenced by the workload of the employee. Results showed that all job crafting behaviors significantly enhanced work engagement. Furthermore, participating in the job crafting intervention increased interests crafting for workers with a high workload, which in turn lead to an increase in work engagement. Our findings suggest that the job crafting intervention can indeed be an effective tool for enhancing work engagement. As globalization progresses rapidly, much attention has been paid to the extension of shift-share analysis, but the most important phenomenon is to extend the traditional shift-share analysis to international trade. Henderson (1962) developed a regional growth rate differential analysis that shows growth contribution by sector. This paper analyzed the export fluctuation by factors of 10 major export items of Gwangyang Port and Incheon Port by applying shift-share analysis and growth rate differential analysis. This paper differs from the previous studies in two respects. First, it applies the shift-share analysis and the regional growth rate differential analysis so that each technique can complement each other. Second, the export weight is analyzed instead of the export amount which focuses on the existing research. In the case of Gwangyang Port, the regional allocation effect of nine items out of 10 items has a positive sign, but in the growth rate differential analysis, the competitive factors of most items have negative signs, and the analysis shows opposite results. In the case of Incheon port, the shift-share analysis shows that the industrial structure effect and regional allocation effect have positive signs in three items. However, in the regional growth rate differential analysis, both weighting factor and competitiveness factor have no positive sign. This analysis implies that both techniques should be applied together in order to accurately resolve and evaluate port export structure and competitiveness. Willingness to Communicate English Abstract: The purpose of this research is to explore the critical factors that affect undergraduate students? Willingness to Communicate in English (WTC). The data was collected from a sample of 416 respondents using a questionnaire to measure attitudes. Data was analysed using SPSS and Mplus 6.12 computer programmes. The findings revealed that students? Perceived Communication Apprehension (PCA) could influence WTC indirectly via Attitude Toward Willingness to Communicate (AWTC) and Perceived Behavioural Control (PBC), whilst WTC was not affected from PCA indirectly via the Subjective Norm (SN). Students were found to be tense and nervous about speaking English with their friends, strangers, and new acquaintance which was associated with a lack of confidence. However, if activities were perceived to be fun students were more willing to communicate. This research is useful for teachers of English as it can increase awareness of the causes and effects of anxiety on students? learning and suggest teaching methodologies that might reduce nervousness and encourage students? willingness to communicate: thereby helping to improve their English oral communication skills. In this regard, social media addiction is one of the common issue that is assessed by many parties from the sociological perspective. Hereof, it is important to assess social media addiction as a type of addiction from a sociological perspective. Throughout this research, the sociological background of social media addiction will be tried to be establish by theoretically. To this end, relevant links of the features of modern and postmodern societies will be established and they will be associated with individualization. Subsequently, an answer will be sought to determine if a sociological solution to social media addiction can be developed or not. Through specialized institutions and funds, the European Union helps and through various forms directly participates in tourism development in rural areas, and the strengthening of rural development policy has become one of the highest priorities of the European Union. Although not a member of the EU, the Republic of Serbia has defined its path of development, which implies strengthening the competitiveness and attractiveness of tourism products, taking into account new world experiences, while relying on own innovations and pre-accession EU funds. This aspect was the starting point for the development of these research and the aim of the authors was to point out one of the ways to use the excess labor force in the tourism sector, how to develop rural tourism and how to use the European funds for the development of regional tourism in the region of Vojvodina. Though it has been around for half a century, and evidences abound about the phenomenon of Event Induced Variance (EIV), the methodological development in the ES literature, has mostly focused only on a shift in location of the expected abnormal returns. In this work, a random-effect model is proposed which explicitly accounts for the (empirically observed) cross-sectional variance of the (predicted) abnormal returns, along with another parameter accommodating for (another empirical phenomenon of) a change in post-event volatility. Under this model, the null hypothesis of "no event effect" also involves these additional variance parameters other than the usual mean. This necessitates development of new tests for this and other hypotheses of interests in ES, for which new Likelihood Ratio Tests (LRTs) are derived. As is standard in the ES literature, the specification and power behavior of the newly developed LRTs are compared with those of the existing ES tests, using real returns of 1231 stocks, that were listed in the National Stock Exchange, India between April 1998 and January 2016. 100,000 samples of sizes 5 and 50 are drawn to estimate and compare the probabilities of type-I error and power of the tests. The new LRTs are compared with both the popular and recent parametric and non-parametric ES tests in the literature. The powers are compared under both presence and absence of shift in location of the distribution of the abnormal returns, along with those of the two components of EIV. The newly developed LRTs are found to be adequately specified, and for more powerful than the existing ES tests in the literature, for a wide spectrum of alternatives. A dominant hypothesis addressing this question is the pollution haven hypothesis (PHH) that purports that trade liberalization results in a relocation of dirty goods production to jurisdictions with lax environmental regulation. The PHH calls into question the efficacy of domestic environmental standards especially with respect to climate policy, because the location of emission of greenhouse gasses is irrelevant to the problem of climate change. More generally, the PHH is at the heart of the trade and environment debate. This paper examines whether UK?s outbound investment flows (FDI) is influenced by the host countries? environmental regulations. We employ a general empirical model of the determination of FDI flows that captures interactions between country and industry characteristics in determining industry location. We use data on UK based multinational activity in 64 countries and 23 industries over the period between 2002 and 2006. We find a statistically and economically significant effect of environmental policy on the pattern of UK outbound FDI ? a pollution haven effect. Being a member of emigrants? Facebook supportive groups is common among Georgians mostly living in Europe and North America. They use Facebook groups to get acquainted with other Georgian emigrants, share their ideas and important information, get social support from other members and cope with their everyday hassles. This study examines how Facebook group membership experience (frequency of activity and using self-presentation tactics) is associated with accumulating online social capital among Georgian emigrants. 105 Georgian emigrants from 15 Facebook groups participated in the online survey. The results showed that frequent checking of notifications, writing posts, comments, and likes on emigrants? Facebook groups are positively associated with both bridging and bonding social capital. In addition, strategic self-presentation on Facebook groups is also positively related to online social capital variables. It is observed that with one steering wheel unit the driving lessons are delayed since both trainee and trainer will take turns positioning in the same steering wheel during demonstration and application of driving competencies. Likewise, the safety of both trainer and trainee is at stake since the trainer?s control of the trainee?s manipulation of the steering wheel and pedals is done only through verbal instruction. This development study aimed to invent Auto-Shift Application Pilot (ASaP) control system to be used in innovating a trainee friendly and a danger-free school driving vehicle. ASaP controls the functioning of the two sets of the steering wheel and two sets of pedal respectively for the trainer and the trainee to facilitate teaching-learning of car driving competencies. Using descriptive design, test and evaluation of the functionality and aesthetic design of ASaP control system were conducted by 5 school driving trainers and 15 driving trainees as respondent. Results showed that ASaP control system is highly functional with the mean score of 4.6 and competitive in its aesthetic design with the mean score of 4.2. It is recommended that this ASaP control system is installed in a school driving vehicle for a trainee friendly and trainee danger free driving lessons. (2000), Christie&Huang (1995), Hwang&Salmon (2001) and Torrecillas et al (2016). The main goal is to investigate the implications of the interest rate and foreign exchange fluctuations for the stock market efficiency. The results of the work help to identify the sources of herding behavior in the Russian stock market.Employing different approaches towards measuring herding, it is possible to determine whether individuals copy each other?s actions (Torrecillas et al (2016)) or herd towards market views about market index (Chang et al. (2000), Christie&Huang (1995), Hwang&Salmon (2001)). This paper starts by the establishing the transition from efficient-market behavior to herding behavior by using Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (Torrecillas et al (2016)) applied to MICEX closing prices within the period from September 1997 to December 2017. The DFA reveals the presence of persistent herding behavior during the 2007-2009 crisis. Next, Christie and Huang?s CSSD measure of stock returns is used to capture if herding related to the firm-specific risk in the portfolio is present at the market. Consistent with results of the previous studies, the method fails to establish traces of herding. Christie and Huang?s improved measure of CSSD with non-linear trend by Chang et al. (2000) yields evidence of herding in the down market during monetary policy announcements. The results of the Hwang and Salmon?s state space models help to demonstrate herding related to the market risk by analyzing relative dispersion of the time-varying betas for assets. The main finding is that changes in the betas can?t be explained by movements in fundamentals, which indicates intentional herding. Therefore, bad news for the stock market (interest rate increase and currency depreciation) induce intentional herding in the Russian stock market. Intentional herding during market stress has important implications for portfolio diversification for both diversified and undiversified investors. Abstract: While the relationship between inequality and economic growth has been studied since last century providing a general picture of the income distribution's influence on economic growth, it hides the relationship's complexity by merely using a single and general inequality statistic. Recently, the consequence of top income inequality has been broadly discussed after the financial crisis and related social movement. Research covering series on top income share has emerged in an international and historical perspective. Some researchers present the relationship between top income and growth recession. But rather than focusing on the short period of stagnation, it is more meaningful to explore what top income performs consistently long time ahead that causes economic growth to a halt. This study fills this gap by a quantitative research of 31 countries from 1950 to 2014, studying top income's relation with the duration of growth spells - periods of high, healthy, per capita growth - indicating sustained growth based on Berg, Ostry and Zettelmeyer (2012) research.Studies show that taken other standard determinants into consideration, income distribution equality is robustly associated with longer growth spells. Thus, will top income inequality has the same influence on growth duration? Will top income's influence change in different stage of growth spells? These are the questions we try to answer. This paper redefines growth spells using Bai and Perron's (1998, 2003, 2006) methodology of structural breaks with improved economic criteria and applies duration analysis to explore the role of top income influencing the duration of growth spells. We find that top inequality is significantly associated with growth duration, and the top inequality's effect changes within growth spells. Results show the initial level of top 1% income share is positively associated with the length of growth spells while its change within spells shortened the length of growth spell. But top income initial's positive effect is relatively more than the negative effect of the change within spells. This study sheds light on top income's role in economic sustained growth, offering a potential solution in avoiding the middle-income trap. At the start of growth spells, top income's larger share can enhance the possibility the economy maintains growing. But as the growth continues, top income's adverse effect begins to show. The government should make the best use of the top income's positive effect at the take-off stage and avoid its adverse effect as the growth continues. Those who indicate the institutional and organizational stability as main source of economic growth state that any endeavor of corporates increasing production and employment is no longer sufficient for sustainable growth. It is obvious that national economies need intangible assets as far as tangible ones. Corporate reputation is one of these intangible assets. Reputation of any organization entirely depends on stakeholders? perception. The presence and level of this perception are affected by some factors associated with the positions of external and internal stakeholders. In this context, we investigate the potential linkage between corporate reputation and financial performance of corporates in Turkey between 2006 and 2016. This study aims to identify the financial determinants of corporate reputation as well as perception of stakeholders. Our data set is balanced panel. The dependent variable is the current reputation rankings which are output of Capital Magazine?s survey of ?Most Admired Companies of Turkey?. This survey has been conducted since 1999, and respondents are professional managers. In order to have a balanced panel, we evaluate six companies which were in top 20 for the longest time together, and whose stocks are traded in Borsa Istanbul. Our independent variables are return on equity (ROE), current ratio (CR), debt ratio (DR), asset turnover ratio (ATR), growth of marketing expenditures, and previous reputation ranking of company. GDP growth rate, origin country of company, and company?s sector are control variables. Data sample is based on Capital?s survey, balance sheets and income statements of the companies. We employ a random-effects model for estimation. The preliminary results show that there are significant relationships between ROE, ATR, previous reputation ranking, company?s sector, and current reputation ranking. While ROE would increase, the current reputation of the company would be higher. On the other hand, our model indicates that there is a positive relationship between ATR and the current reputation ranking. These first results will inevitably lead to management policy advices for professional managers to build a sustain reputation in micro level. Additionally, some macro policy proposals can be inferred through the institutional-based view. Application in the University Laica Eloy Alfaro Manabí Abstract: The current environment demands the application of modern approaches to address the implementation of internal control a priority, to contribute to the continuous improvement of the organizations. It is a necessity in the institutions of higher education the improvement of risk management, as an essential component of internal control and the implementation of process management. In this context at the Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro Manabi, although they have applied innovative tools of control, there is evidence that the risk assessment is not carried out on a regular basis and it is not structured by processes; therefore, the research aims to: develop tools for process management and risk management in the Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro of Manabi. To comply with the proposed objective, it starts with the diagnosis of the current situation, through the implementation and analysis of a list of checks that assesses the ability of the organization's strategic prevention, which was adapted to the context of the universities. As the main diagnostic results, an analysis of the gaps and opportunities for improvement in the different variables that make up the dimensions of the design of the strategic orientation and preparation of the university for the management of risks, risk management in an integrated manner, and implementation and control; and then propose tools for process management and risk management. The study used empirical methods and statistical methods, such as the descriptive statistics and Cronbach's Alpha coefficient to measure the reliability of the instrument applied. The US crisis (or the Great Recession) broke out in 2008 in a developed economy due to sub-prime mortgage loans in a private sector. The Greek crisis was triggered by mounting sovereign debts in the public sector (government) in a developing economy. This study used the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model to analyze volatility spillovers and co-movements among 11 stock markets in Asia, Europe, and the North America. Some of notable findings are: 1) Stock markets in these regions had not been fully integrated; 2) the US market became more integrated with stock markets in Europe but less with those markets in Asia and Greece after the two crises; 3) after the US crisis, the US market had been dominant in European markets but not in Asian markets; 4) decreasing intra-continental correlations support that stock markets in Asia and Europe had been less integrated; 5) decreasing inter-continental correlations support that the markets in Asia and Europe became less integrated in the post-crisis period; 6) increasing inter-continental correlations between the US and Asian markets and between the US and European markets support more integration; 7) after the US crisis, European markets adjusted faster to innovations (shocks) by the US crisis but Asian markets adjustment slowed; 8) the significance of ARCH terms supports strong financial contagion from the US market to other financial markets; 9) significant GARCH terms support strong volatility spillovers from the US and Greek markets to other markets; and 10) the (developed) US market had much more significant impacts on other markets than did the developing Greek market. In sum, the overall results suggest that stock markets in these regions had not been fully integrated, and there still exist potential diversification benefits to be exploited by investors. The hospitality industry is known to be a stressful industry with antisocial working hours, poor salaries and high expectations of consistent good service. Currently the Department of Hospitality Management is experiencing many challenges relaying to successful placement of students in industry and completion of the work-integrated learning segment of students. A well-established process is followed, but this process does not address all the issues as the attitude of students? attitude has changed. Generation-Y students as well as first-generation students have needs that differ from those of previous students. Tertiary education has to include preparation for work-integrated learning in the curriculum to enhance the work-integrated learning experience. Students who should take responsibility for their own learning during internship, should realise the importance of a positive attitude. A successful internship will only be achieved if the tertiary environment, students and industry form a positive partnership, with each partner contributing to a well-prepared student with relevant employability skills suited to the work environment. The result of the carried out analysis of the existing recognition methods indicates, that all of them are based on the use of ?inflexible? algorithms, which are badly adapted to the characteristic features of speech signals, thus degrading the efficiency of the operation of the whole recognition system. The necessity of the use of algorithms for determination of recognition features along with the use of the wavelet packet analysis as one of the advanced directions of the creation of the effective methods and principles of the development of the speech signals recognition systems is substantiated.Analysis of the compression methods with the use of the orthogonal transformations at the complete exception of minimal decomposition factors is conducted; a maximal possible compression degree is defined. In this compression method the orthogonal transformation of the signal segment with the subsequent exception of the set of the smallest modulo decomposition factors, irrespective of the order of their distribution, is conducted. Therefore the additional transfer of the information on the factors distribution is required. As a result, two information streams appear, the first one corresponds to the information stream on the decomposition factors, and the second stream transfers information on the distribution of these factors.Method of the determination of the speech signals recognition features and the algorithm for nonlinear time normalization is proposed and proved.Wavelet-packet transformation is adaptive, i.e. it allows adapting to the signal features more accurately by means of the choice of the proper tree of the optimal decomposition form, which provides the minimal number of wavelet factors at the prescribed accuracy of signal reconstruction, thus eliminating the information-surplus and unnecessary details of the signals. Government expenditure and factors of their growth are crucial problem of many countries. In the context of the EU2020 strategy, supportive of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, pressure on public expenditure is in link with on-going fiscal consolidation and the legacy of the economic and financial crisis. The paper evaluates the government expenditure in compliance with the COFOG international standard. The results show that the expenditure composition differs across the EU countries, but it is also possible to identify some similarities for specific government COFOG functions, such as the large weight of social protection. The proportion of potentially growth-enhancing public expenditure, such as education, health care, R&D or public investment, affirms significant cross-country variation. Next, the article provides direct empirical evidence on cyclicality and the long-term and short-term relationship between government COFOG expenditure and output. The Johansen cointegration test and the Error Correction Model are applied for research. Findings confirm the long-term relationship between government expenditure and output but the short-term relationship is not confirmed due to a low statistical significance. Social media such as Instagram provides a digital trade platform for their users. It is important for social commerce vendors to know the antecedents of social commerce intent. Trust is one of the important antecedents and it is also critical to build trust. The aim of this study is to propose and validate a research model including trust and its antecedents (product differentiation and reputation) and measure the influence of trust on social commerce intent on Instagram users by means of PLS-Sem. The research sample consists of Instagram users who bought anything from Instagram in the last three months. Data were collected in the months of December of 2017 and January of 2018. A total of 289 survey responses from participants, were collected. Based on the initial screening of the collected questionnaires, 31 of them were excluded as they were inappropriate. This study provides useful implications for both academics and practitioners in digital economy. PLS-Sem method was used to test the research model. The scale of Yahia et al. (2018) was adapted for all of the antecedents. The findings of the research showed that all of the antecedents were found to have statistically significant influence on social commerce intent of Instagram users. According to the modelling results several digital marketing strategies were proposed. Maintaining a diverse workforce is becoming critically important for organizations as they operate in a complex environment requiring multiple approaches to problem-solving and the integration of a diversity of perspectives to maintain a competitive advantage. The availability of Indigenous workers who have unique cultural perspectives would seem to be a perfect solution, however, there is a problem as to how to support and retain these workers. This issue is demonstrated by the fact that in 2011, the unemployment rate for Indigenous people in Canada was measured at 12.3%, compared with 6.8% for non-Indigenous people and numbers on retention reflect this disparity. Though barriers to successful employment are numerous and complex, Indigenous people cite a lack of cultural understanding from managers and peers as one of the key issues that they face with regard to gaining and retaining employment. Therefore, this qualitative, multiple case study explored further and expanded on how Indigenous cultural approaches to work and subsequent work interactions influence employment and employment retention from an Indigenous perspective. Data was collected and analyzed from 12 participants; a focus group of six as well as six individual in depth interviews with First Nations men and women over 18 and under 55 who had a minimum of five years? work experience. Understanding the context of culture and the influences on work outcomes for Indigenous people may generate new understanding of the problems and their placement in work engagement theory. In particular, we identify a ubiquitous factor in the organization that affects concerns about inequality?namely, the number of allocation recipients. More specifically, we tested the hypothesis that third-party decision makers who allocate resources become less concerned about inequality in the allocation as the number of recipients increases. We expected decision makers faced with a tradeoff between equality and other considerations, such as efficiency (in the sense of maximizing the overall value of the allocation) or equity (in the sense of rewarding recipients differently based on their inputs), to show a stronger preference for equality in allocations to a smaller number of recipients than in allocations to a larger number of recipients. Studies 1a and 1b provide experimental evidence for the basic effect in a simple equality-efficiency tradeoff among participants in behavioral choice paradigms, while Study 2 provides further support for the effect in questionnaire responses concerning tradeoffs between equality and either efficiency or equity, and Study 3 further substantiates our findings using a large, representative cross-national sample of employed and unemployed individuals. Studies 4a and 4b, respectively, examine possible mechanisms underlying the effect, showing, first, that social comparison?but not fairness considerations?appear to mediate the effect; and, second, that the effect holds even allocators know that recipients will not have information regarding others? allocations. Finally, Studies 5a and 5b offer some manifestations of the effect in naturally-occurring data, in both faculty salary distributions at a large public university and in attitudes towards inequality in an extant, large-scale national survey. Financial stability, in general terms, is expressed as the resilience of the economy against the unexpected situations that may disrupt the multi-dimensional equilibrium in the financial system. Although a large number of studies have examined the effect of financial deepening on economic growth, there is a little evidence on the effect of financial stability or soundness on economic growth. A present study considering the 2002 ? 2017 period which covers the implementation of inflation targeting monetary policy regime analyses the short and long-run dynamics of financial stability ? economic growth relationship by using co-integration and ARDL techniques. Obtained results show that a steadily functioning financial system is a requirement for economic growth. In particular, financial leverage, capital adequacy, asset quality, and liquidity are important components of financial stability affecting the economic growth. Thus, formulating the efficient policies to support economic growth requires understanding the factors that affect financial stability. The phenomenon of people working from home is gaining interest for many people, especially those still looking for jobs. The main purpose of this study was to explore on the work experiences of people working from home or the virtual professionals. This study employed a qualitative research design using phenomenological tradition. Twelve participants from different parts of the Philippines willingly responded to the Key Informant Interviews (KII). In terms of how the participants described their life, including the advantages, the findings revealed the following themes: Freedom, Flexibility, Family Time, Learning Experience, Convenience and Financial Advantage. As to the challenges they experienced, Internet Interruption, Distractions, and Less Social Life were the three major themes that came out. For their suggestions to those still looking for jobs, three themes emerged: Online Work, Confidence and Skills Development. The participants were happy with their work, giving the fact that they have more time with their family and enjoy other benefits. The findings of the study were sources of inspiration for those who are still jobless, for parents who want to be with their kids, but still earn a living, and even for people with disabilities (PWD). Indeed, without much government intervention and investment, the virtual professionals are finding jobs and are paving the way for combating unemployment. The implication of the study is for government and other agencies to understand this new phenomenon and to create mechanisms to support and promote it. On the basis of their focus the disciplines can be divided into two categories: the personal level (personal mastery and mental models) and the organizational level (shared vision and team learning). Systems thinking involves both levels. The aim of this study was to find out which disciplines of leadership of a learning organization are prevailing in the teachers? beliefs, in order to develop a leadership model of an effective educational institution at personal and organizational levels. The interviews of 45 primary school teachers from 28 Estonian schools were analyzed by the method of targeted thematic analysis. Both, group- and person-oriented approaches were used to investigate the differences between the average results of groups and between the teachers with different profiles (Bergman et al., 2003; Cohen et al., 2007). It appeared that the personal mastery as well as mental models appeared substantially more frequently in teachers? interviews than the disciplines related to the organizational level (systems thinking, shared vision and team learning). However, the frequency of mentioning systems thinking was especially low, which may be related to the lack of the relevant theoretical knowledge of teachers. The model of effective management of an educational institution created on the basis of the results of this study. To achieve this, among other actions, they have developed initiatives that allow the coordination of technologies, people, processes and structures; however, these actions have had a short-term vision and low impact rates. To determine the current situation of knowledge management in the Colombian public sector, a literature review was carried out to identify barriers of initiatives from the international context, detect Colombian initiatives and characterize the scientific documentation of the country related with knowledge management. As a result, in Colombia and other emerging economies, knowledge management actions are rarely documented and developed from the scientific and research literature, evidencing the absence of guidelines and guidance tools to create and manage knowledge management initiatives. This delay is attributed to the fact that, in the private sector, it is not considered a strategic issue, and, the academic focus on conceptual approach, research the importance of formulating strategies and the needs of finding an adequate model. It is emphasized that the implemented approach is related to the use of information technologies, leaving aside the importance of human interaction to create, transfer and appropriate knowledge. The identified Colombian initiatives are from the MinTIC and non-financial public companies, which have focused on the implementation of knowledge management tools and practices and the creation of specialized equipment. In conclusion, from the international perspective, where innovation is sought to be implemented as a response mechanism to the demands of current citizens, in Colombia there are significant delays in the development and documentation of knowledge management initiatives. Also, although there is a growing interest in the implementation of KM models in the public sector, but they can't achieve be materialized because there are no guidelines or processes for the creation of models that facilitate the transfer of knowledge. With exponentially increasing costs associated with acquiring a college degree, it is no wonder that we see the world?s focus turn to its ROI. Many feel the returns from this investment are best demonstrated by colleges with job placement rates and average starting salaries of its graduates. Unfortunately, for many academics, they feel such a focus demands curriculum be changed to suit equipping students with ready-to-use job skills at the cost of truly teaching critical skills necessary to be a life-long learner. Many feel this causes students to disengage from their learning, and instead concentrate only on skills that will directly help them in their first job. It is possible to help students see beyond the direct relation of their education to a job, and engage with them on a higher level, pushing them academically in ways that create better students and better professionals. This paper will provide a case study of a capstone class of graduating senior accounting students who are asked to collaboratively set the agenda of their learning as the last step in their formal education as a way to engage them with the act of learning itself, and the many forms it can take outside the classroom.Best practices will be presented to get students fully engaged in the process of collaboratively setting the agenda for the class, as well as pitfalls to avoid. Instructors will have the most success with such student collaboration if they focus on the desired learning outcomes of the course, and pre-emptively design ways in which that learning can occur. Guiding the students to activities that best suits their learning, seemingly by their design, is the desired outcome. The class in the case to be presented creates a conference and hosts local business professionals who attend- thus the student becomes the teacher as the culminating outcome for the course. This paper proposes a new TC technique, which classifies Arabic language text documents using the naďve Bayesian classifier attached to a genetic algorithm, model; this algorithm classifies documents by generating a random sample of chromosomes that represent documents in the corpus. The developed model aims to enhance the work of naďve Bayesian classifier through applying the genetic algorithm model. Experiment results show that the precision and recall are increased when testing higher number of documents; the precision was ranged from 0.8 to 0.97 for different testing environment; the number of genes that is placed in every chromosome is also tested and experiments show that the best value for the number of genes is 50 genes Length: 1 page Creation-Date: 2018-06 Publication-Status: Published in Proceedings of the Proceedings of the 35th International Academic Conference, Barcelona, Jun 2018, pages 162-162 File-URL: https://iises.net/proceedings/35th-international-academic-conference-barcelona-spain/table-of-content/detail?cid=64&iid=054&rid=9186 File-Function: First version, 2018 Number: 6409186 Classification-JEL: C80 Keywords: Data mining, Text classification, Genetic algorithm, Naďve Bayesian Classifier, N-gram processing Handle: RePEc:sek:iacpro:6409186 Template-Type: ReDIF-Paper 1.0 Author-Name: Lei Zhang Author-Name-First: Lei Author-Name-Last: Zhang Author-Email: lei.zhang@uregina.ca Author-Workplace-Name: University of Regina Title: Artificial Neural Network Based Chaotic Generator Design for The Prediction of Financial Time Series Abstract: series. The ANN architecture is usually designed and optimized based on trial and error using a given training data set. It is generally required to obtain big data for ANN training in order to achieve good training performance. Financial time series are subject to highly complex conditions of external inputs and their dynamic features can change fast and unpredictably. The aim of this research is to design an adaptive ANN architecture, which can be trained in real time with short time series for near future prediction. However, empirical research on the subject is scarce. This study thus set out to investigate how change in PM mediates the effect of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on perceived stress. The participants in this study (N = 147) were recruited via a newspaper advertisement for a intervention to reduce stress. They were randomized over a waiting list condition or a treatment condition where they received an eight week MBSR intervention. Participants filled in questionnaires regarding their trait mindfulness, PM and perceived stress before and after the eight weeks. Results indicated that change in PM fully mediated the relationship between condition and perceived stress. Those in the treatment condition showed a larger increase in PM which was also related to a larger decrease of perceived stress compared to the waiting list condition. We thus conclude that increasing insight in one?s own psychological processes is an important factor for the effectiveness of mindfulness based interventions.
