Malcolm X, Stokely Carmichael and Walter Rodney theorized Africa as the agency whose heritage and post-colonial political power, and economic resources, afforded diaspora blacks and oppressed colored populations worldwide the wherewithal for survival and empowerment. Paradoxically, even as these activists were drawn to Africa by a macro-vision of a Pan-African solidarity, the competing demand of, and loyalty to, ethno-cultural identity (micro-nationalism) complicated and problematized Africa?s capacity to function as envisioned. In essence, their attempts to construct a unified foundation for a broad colored cosmopolitan struggle morphed into a conflict between the call for a unified Pan-African struggle vested on Africa on the one hand, and micro-nationalistic allegiance to, and concerns for, the problems and challenges specific to the diasporic context/nationality. The author starts her article by emphasising the social and legal importance of the expunction of conviction and explains the essence of the institution. She then goes on to present the Fiscal Criminal Code as an independent legal act and elaborates on its connections to the Criminal Code. In the main part of the article, the author analyses the legal basis for the expunction of conviction for fiscal criminal offences and presents an in-depth analysis of the regulations governing the expunction of conviction for fiscal criminal offences. She goes on to examine the issue of absolution of a conviction for fiscal criminal offences and misdemeanours through a Presidential pardon. As a result of the analysis, the author makes assessment of the present state of the law as to the expunction of conviction for fiscal criminal offences and misdemeanours. The author suggests that it is necessary to amend some of the existing regulations and proposes a number of de lege ferenda postulates. This media, called ?unpointcinq? (onepointfive), primarily targets adults of the French province of Quebec who are generally interested in the subject of CC, but find it either too complex or far from their personal concerns. It disseminates various contents about the province?s diverse initiatives ? individual, community-based, governmental, etc. ? regarding the fight against CC. The originality of this media relates to its positive tone. Information about CC often presents fear-inducing messages that stress its negative consequences, using an apocalyptic rhetoric (Benjamin et al., 2016; Spence & Pidgeon, 2010). However, research in environmental psychology and environmental communication show that negative framing can be ineffective for engaging and mobilizing publics around CC issues (Jang, 2013; Cox & Depoe, 2013), encouraging researchers and practitioners to test other communication strategies, including different types of positive frames. This mixed-methods research is divided in two parts. First, before the Web media was launched, we conducted a segmentation study using a quantitative questionnaire sent to 1200 Quebeckers, assessing attitudes and behaviours regarding CC, but also perceived relevance and interest towards different themes and frames potentially covered by ?unpointcinq?. This study allowed us to identify priority segments to target, as well as the most efficient frames to use in the media. In the second qualitative phase, we conducted five semi-directed focus groups within the first four months of the media being launched. A total of 40 participants from the segments most receptive to the media evaluated its first contents. These interviews were conducted in the spirit of a living lab and in an iterative manner, where participants and researchers both made recommendations to the editorial and production team to better frame the information. In this present conference, we propose to present the most salient results of the two phases of this ongoing research project. Abstract: This paper studies online one-way trading problem, where an investor is given the task of trading dollars to yen. Each day, a new exchange rate is given and the investor must decide how many dollars to convert to yen without knowing the future exchange rates. Since El-Yaniv originally proposed this online problem and presented an optimal threat-based trading strategy, many researchers have been working on innovation based on this model. From the financial risk view, this paper extended El-Yaniv?s traditional one-way trading model to present a risk management framework by introducing American put option with the first price as the strike price. This framework extends pure competitive analysis and allows investors to benefit from options. Second, since the option can help the investors to hedge risk, we extend analysis of Al-Binali (1999) to design the option-forecast trading strategy with twice forecasts. The results show that the option-forecast trading strategy constrains the risk of sudden dropping to the minimum price through the American put option. Compared with former research, the competitive ratio of the option-forecast trading strategy is improved effectively. Respondents estimated their levels of negative and positive feelings, their expectations for improvement in their economic status in the future and their personal risk perceptions with respect to various events. Two versions of the questionnaire (positive and negative) were administered to two groups of participants. The results suggest that risk perceptions were more optimistic on the negative version than on the positive version of the questionnaire. Yet, items regarding economic expectations were more optimistic on the positive version. The results also show that higher levels of negative feelings correlate with pessimistic economic expectations and pessimistic risk perceptions on the negative version of the questionnaire but not on the positive version. We conclude that the relationships between natural feelings and economic expectations and between natural feelings and risk perceptions depend on how the risky items and the economic expectations items are framed. Membership Orientation Differentiation/Equality: two way approach Abstract: The world is evolving and times changing, so is changing the concept of Leadership all across the globe, within companies, organizations and even our day to day routines. Long gone are the days where we believed in the Great Man theory i.e. that leaders are born and not created, leaders like Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi were destined for greatness and lead nations contrary to modern day beliefs and situations. The survey, adapted from Rusell Dore, was taken, from team leaders, members, and top-level managers of organizations and cooperates with India to understand their approach and social-emotional process A member/employee related approach and the extent to which leader form a different quality relationship and their behavior with the individuals of the group is the basis of this research. The present study measures which approach do leaders prefer to use in today?s time, which approach can increase their group effectiveness and how. A dual perspective is taken into consideration ? approach of the leader in the context of their members and approach of the members as preferred by them in context of their leaders. For understanding the effect of teamwork and group effectiveness, two concepts were combined and worked upon, project and emotional process combined with group results and viability. It shows that a strong leader-member unbiased connection, effective communication, clear work distribution, and clarity leads to an effective output and strong teamwork while on the other hand, a weak and bias connection with members, leads to conflicts and negativity among the team, hampering their effectiveness. Results showed the following observations:1.Members that felt that their leaders were biased decreased their productivity and also the time period they served in a company. 2.Leaders usually show a biased and differentiated approach in a group. 3.Leaders, who maintained a friendly and close relationship with their group, were more productive and likely to stay longer in the company. The study presented is important in modern day because of the following reasons: 1. Awareness is created as to which approach leaders are using and how it can be improved. 2. A theoretical framework developed which can be useful for leaders. Hence, a direction towards modern day HR strategies, operational growth and quality functioning of a company/ organization including cultural enhancement strategies can be resourceful in context of this research. Abstract: India is a culturally diverse nation with several traditions, customs, practices, and approaches. Apart from that is a big fact of India is still in the loop of development of the education system. During the medieval period, India had "guru" "chela" or "Gurukul a- Gurukula was a type of residential schooling system in ancient India with shishya living near or with the guru, in the same house. to modern days teacher and student approach for a limited period of time in a more formal or conceptualized setting. India post its freedom went through a lot of changes while progressing India has been in a constant conflict with the changes to be done to its education system , India being a populous nation has the second biggest education system after China, even after that India stand s on the 72nd place out of 73 countries tested by PISA (OCED) in the global education survey. Fellowship programmes in India supported by organisations such as Teach for India etc, are trying to sow new seeds of change , for years now as Indian students have learned through one means which is memorising for the for sake of scores and not for the purpose of knowing or learning something which will convert into a life skill in near future. The flourished concept of such youth driven fellowship programmes to focus on CT(constructive thinking ) which challenge students to think, rethink, question, demand answers, these programmes not only support the idea of quality education but also provides employment to graduates or job seekers change makers. The research will also show or represent the fragment or graduate population in proportion to the jobs available in Indian market. While citizens of Kosovo overwhelmingly support membership in the European Union, assessment reports specify that Kosovo and its institutions still need serious reform to achieve this goal. The integration process offers mechanisms that civil society namely NGO sector can use in order to monitor and give direct contribution for this process, which could also impact to transform Kosovo institutions and society. The Annual Progress Report of the European Commission requires from governments and institutions of countries aspiring for integration to the EU to pursue sound governance practices that allow civil societies to have an impact on policy and decision-making processes. Relying on this requirement, NGOs can use the process as a way to shape the organization and function in their society and institutions. The role of Kosovo NGO?s whose focus is political activism that tends to increase demands for democratic participation in the political system is very important for Kosovo?s EU Integration process. NGO?s apart from monitoring role towards the Government, they can become one of the main partners for EU Integration Process, especially to the European Commission (EC). The aim of this paper is to analyze the role of NGO?s as part of civil society in the whole process of EU integration and current possibilities for improving their capacities and contributions towards the public policy and decision making process. However it mostly synthesized by the chemical process and it should be a demerit as a cosmetic material. Thus a bioprocess of the vitamin A should be developed to strengthen the competitiveness of the vitamin A based anti-aging products. The vitamin A is also easily oxidized in the air and the oxidation causes the side effects like the skin irritation and a poor delivery of the active ingredients into the skin. The stability improvement of the bio-vitamin A must be required to minimize its side effects and enhance the absorbability and moisturizing property of the final products. In this study, the derivatization of the retinol was performed to enhance the stability and the low-priced commercial retinol was used as a substitute material for the bio-based retinol with impurities.A commercial Retinol 50C (BASF) was separated from the additives and others by the column chromatography for the purification and the retinol purified would be applied to the derivatization. The retinyl acetate would be synthesized through the esterification with the acetyl chloride and the derivatives were finally recovered as the crystal through the crystallizing purification. Their structural and physicochemical properties were analyzed by 1H-NMR and FT-IR and it was confirmed that the purification of the low-priced retinol and the derivatization of the retinol purified were performed successfully. These materials have been used for hydrophobic coatings but fluoroalkyl chains are required for oleophobic surfaces. We herein suggest that fluoroalkyl-modified polysilazanes to provide omniphobic nature to solid surfaces. First CF3(CF2)7CH2CH2SiCH3Cl2 was synthesized with 1H,1H,2H-perfluoro-1-decene and Me2SiCl2 by hydrosilylation in the presence of Karstedt catalyst. CF3(CH2)2SiMeCl2, CF3(CF2)7CH2CH2SiMeCl2 or CF3(CF2)7CH2CH2SiMeCl2 was reacted with MeSiHCl2 in the presence of NH3 and pyridine by co-ammonolysis. Final products were examined by 1H-NMR, FT-IR and TGA. Water and oil (hexadecane) contact angles were measured with dip-coated samples on glass slides. The best omniphobic sample is the copolymer between CF3(CF2)7CH2CH2SiMeCl2 and MeSiHCl2 (7:3 weight ratio). The coated glass exhibited 110 degree and 48 degree of water and oil contact angles, respectively. This paper examines the key factors that contribute to the poor performance of fishery insurance in the country and investigates fishermen?s willingness to pay (WTP) for the insurance program, based on a survey of 1,280 fishermen in three coastal cities in China. The results indicate fishermen?s decision on adoption of an insurance scheme depends on various factors, among which the magnitude of loss, insurance awareness and education level all have positive impact, but annual income and years of fishing experience are more likely to have negative effects. In addition, the mean WTP for fishery insurance is estimated to be CNY 579 per family, which is equivalent to 1.5% of fishermen's mean annual income. These results provide several policy implications for not only the government but also researchers and insurance companies. CENTRAL AREAS Abstract: In Japan, decline of the central urban area due to the suburbanization of various functions associated with the progress of motorization is posing to be a great challenge. In addition, in recent years, an increase in vacant houses has become an issue all over Japan due to population decrease and the aging population. There is also concern that the number of vacant houses will increase in central urban areas. In this research, we grasped the actual conditions of vacant houses and vacancy of the condominium in central urban areas of 35 local cities in Japan and analyzed location trends in the target 5 cities about vacant houses and 35 cities about vacancy of condominiums. We investigated the vacant houses and vacancy of condominiums in each central urban area and analyzed the location trend of vacant houses and vacancy of condominiums about the following points; ?Distance to station?, ?Road contact condition?, ?Floor area ratio designation?, ?Price? and ?age of a building?. We can mention to the tendency of vacant houses location is the house which is located far from station, have contact with narrow road, and have relatively small building area. About Vacancy of the condominium it is not related with a price but vacancy rate of condominium is high at the condominiums constructed in bubble economy period. We develop a new measure of macroeconomic independence based on the concept of the desired policy interest rate each country would have chosen if it had retained its own currency and independent monetary policy. If it is detached from the centrally imposed policy rate and the two behave differently, we take it as an indication that the country should be constrained by the common central bank and has low degree of macroeconomic independence (MAI).We find that the original twelve members have indeed enjoyed varying degrees of MAI. Austria, France, Germany, Italy, and Luxembourg retain highest degree of MAI while Ireland, Greece, and Spain seem to have suffered from the lowest degree of MAI. The newly proposed MAI performs well as an OCA index, if not better than existing indices. On the one hand, so called the ?core? countries show up as those that have maintained high MAI. On the one hand, the ?periphery? countries have retained low MAI in the currency union. Given that environmental quality improves as income and consumption increase, ceteris paribus, there must be an increase in remediation/abatement activity. In this paper, we provide theoretical conditions for an existence of a locality-based EKC when both output and abatement expenditures are increasing in income. We validate these predictions empirically using a detailed firm-level dataset in which environmental policies are uniform across locations. We also show that firms engaging in abatement activity tend to locate near polluting firms while income also plays a significant role in location choice. Quality Function Deployment model is a dynamic model that can help to achieve this objective. Quality Function Deployment model has been widely used in the manufacturing industry and its use in the services industry is also felt these days. The literature available on the model generally presents the conceptual framework of the model. The authors have attempted to present through this paper the computations involved in reaching to the solution of the QFD model by way of a toy problem. The paper outlines computations for Goal, Raw weight and Priority scores. By knowing their values the practitioners can take judicious decisions regarding product design, quality improvement, market competition, etc. Length: 1 page Creation-Date: 2018-07 Publication-Status: Published in Proceedings of the Proceedings of the 37th International Academic Conference, Budapest, Jul 2018, pages 64-64 File-URL: https://iises.net/proceedings/37th-international-academic-conference-budapest/table-of-content/detail?cid=77&iid=016&rid=8404 File-Function: First version, 2018 Number: 7608404 Classification-JEL: D29, D20 Keywords: Quality Function Deployment, Goal, Raw weight, Priority Scores Handle: RePEc:sek:iacpro:7608404 Template-Type: ReDIF-Paper 1.0 Author-Name: Lyuba Spasova Author-Name-First: Lyuba Author-Name-Last: Spasova Author-Email: lyuba_spasova@hotmail.com Author-Workplace-Name: Institute for the Study of Societies and Knowledge, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Title: Migrants and refugees - perceptions, attitude and social distance. Data from Bulgaria Abstract: Part of a larger research focused on deviance in the context of intensified migration, the study explores changes in the perceptions of Bulgarians towards migrants and refugees coming to the country or passing by in large numbers in their way to West Europe. Although Bulgaria continues to be predominantly a country of origin of migration, we are currently observing a change of attitudes and reduced solidarity towards migrants and refugees in the country. Drawing on data from a set of representative surveys, we are able to reconstruct a detailed picture of the perceptions and social distance towards migrants. What is more, the design of the survey and samples, enables us to make a comparison and distinction between attitudes of respondents living near centers for temporary accommodation of refugees and the general population, i.e. to study the role and importance of proximity and involvement for social distance, solidarity and perception of migrants and refuges as threat. Beyond that, however, it raises important questions about substituted judgement with respect to medical decisions made on behalf of children below the age of consent. In particular, this case raises issues of who has the authority to make decisions regarding underage children when parents and health care workers radically disagree. Finally, the case raises issues of Canada?s First Nations people. The treatment of those peoples by settlers to this country has been, unfortunately, turbulent and, by any fair assessment, First Nations people have been treated ? and continue to be treated ? unjustly. This was officially recognized by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) report. That report also issued a number of recommendations to rectify the treatment of First Nations People of Canada. I will suggest that whatever one feels about the Makayla Sault case, it cannot be fairly and completely understood outside the context of the history of the mistreatment of First Nations People, the TRC report, and its recommendations. This paper explores this case with a view to one of those recommendations regarding ?indigenizing the academy? and how, in particular, non-aboriginal academics can approach and teach indigenous subject material in their classes. The Rajamangala National Stadium is the national stadium of Thailand and the home stadium for the Thailand national football team. It is part of the HuaMak Sports Complex, locate in HuaMak Subdistrict, BangKapi, Bangkok. Host population perceptions were measured through a two-page self-completed questionnaire written in Thai, administered to a sample of 400 residents of the district of Bangkapi (population 67,931 members) in Bangkok, Thailand. Resident questionnaires were distributed within 2 months, August ? October 2017. The questionnaire comprised 27 questions. The first part aimed to identify awareness of event being staged. The second part contained 2 Open ended questions designed to find out how sporting event effect community, positive and negative impacts, with 8 items measure of residents? perceptions of impact. These items related to personal quality of life, quality of life of community, sense of community and community pride. The final part included questions relate to involvement characteristics of respondents; attend sporting events in year 2017 or previous years, level of interest in event, type of involvement in event by respondent or household member, distance from house, and socio-demographic data. Once collected, all data were entered into SPSS version 15.0 for further analysis. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the subjects and the perceived impacts of sporting events. Because of qualitative approach, the findings were described the central position of a frequency distribution for a group of data by mode. Mode is the number that occurs most often in a set of numbers. The results presented by descriptive with percentage in the form of tables, and text. We found both positive and negative impacts of sporting events performance on the community. The findings were identified as seven main positive impacts and six main negative impacts. These impacts related to economic, social and environmental of the community. The directions for future sporting events research on environmental studies: impact and evaluation studies including sustainability and greening of sporting events such as reducing garbage. More research on consequences of sporting events effect local culture community.
