This study discovers the impact of board independence, women on board and auditor independence on the fraud in financial reporting for a sample covers of 86 year observations of industrial firms listed in Amman Stock Exchange from 2015 to 2016. In this study, income smoothing was a proxy for fraud in financial reporting. Using the multiple regression analysis, the results revealed that board independence and auditor independence plays the key role in prevention the fraud in financial reporting. This study concluded that more independent directors would make lower fraud in financial report. This study provides evidence that the provision of NAS by an external auditor positively contributes to fraud in financial reporting. Nevertheless, the outcomes show that the women on board do not have any effect on the fraud in the financial reporting among industrial Jordanian firms. The current study contributes to the existing literature of fraud and stimulates future research about the factors determinants of the fraud in financial reporting in other developing countries. The practice of these professions, specifically in jurisprudence terms, being the consideration of not what is but an examination of what should be, is considerably interrelated with the pedagogical functions of the catholic church and its history in teachings and functions as a global institution(s). The major principles subscribed to the notions of law and social theory serving as guidance to lawyers, judges, and policy makers is not an amoral practice which renders results regardless of social implications but in fact is a profession which examines the welfare of the state, the fundamental ideas of evil, right, and wrong. These notions transcend into the principled ideas and structures of both government and economic models, more broadly supporting an institution of free market activity which reaffirms man?s personal dignity to engage in a system which inspires responsibility, a wage in coordination with the meaning of justice, private ownership, and more which structures peace, concord and justice. This perspective of catholic thought requires a departure from conventional thinking and a greater adherence to catholic social teaching which regards safeguarding human rights as well as the dignity of an individual as the centerpiece and purpose of law and economics. Law and economics, through the prism of Catholicism, is an erection of societal order designed to advance the welfare of the common good. ?Economics and Law Through the Perspective of Catholic Teachings? intends to reposition the individual?s normative perspectives on the ideas of legality and economic arrangements and instead questions models of these practices in a manner which examines the freedom of man and women. By doing so and by introducing perspectives of law and economics in the catholic thought is to question the contemporary secular sectors of these professions. Residing on the proposition that society can benefit from the extension of social catholic teachings, this paper proposes that career professionals in the fields of law and economics be prescribed to a construction of influenced religious teaching that more effectively utilizes his or her position as a means to extend a greater sense of justice for all bound in the fabric of both America and the world. Amongst various consequences that an exchange rate shock can have on the economy, its impact on country?s external indebtedness is humungous. This negative impact becomes particularly relevant for countries with high foreign currency denominated external debt. Countries with high original sin are expected to suffer the most from balance sheet effects, as foreign currency borrowing makes loan repayment more costly in the presence of a depreciating currency. In this paper our attempt is to empirically validate this negative impact of exchange rate depreciation on external debt valuation in a set of developing and emerging economies. The basic trend analysis of the variables show that; for countries that suffers from high original sin, a depreciation in currency is accompanied by rising external indebtedness and/or high debt servicing costs. The study becomes particularly relevant as majority of the emerging or developing economies are facing continuous depreciation of their currencies. The fact that the currency composition can make way for a financial crisis increases the relevance for our study. We also investigate whether countries with high foreign currency denominated debt make use of their exchange rate appreciation episodes to pay off the rising external debt burden. To this end we use the heterogeneous panel data modelling techniques, specifically the pooled mean group (PMG) estimation. We also report the Mean Group (MG) estimation results and the Dynamic fixed effects estimation results. Panel unit root test such as Levin-Lin-Chu test and Im-Pesaran-Shin test are used to find the stationarity of the variables used in the study. We make use of quarterly data for the analysis, which covers the period 2004 - 2017. The results show that there exist a long run relationship between external debt and exchange rate in most of the countries that constitute the panel. At the same time, a depreciation of exchange rate increases external indebtedness in most of these nations significantly, which can lead to situations of financial distress. Depreciating episodes increases the debt servicing cost. The advantages of electroless technique is that the coating is uniform and can be deposited over intricately shaped objects made of any material. Besides, the coating is inherently hard, wear resistant and corrosion resistant and can be further customized by suitable thermal processing or by incorporating a third element. The present work takes a cue from this and attempts to assess the effect of heat treatment temperature as well as heating period on hardness and tribological behavior of high phosphorus enriched electroless Ni-P (?12 % wt. P), Ni-P-W (?5.3 wt.% W) and Ni-P-Cu (?16 wt.%Cu) coatings. All the three coatings are deposited on mild steel substrates and heat treated to 400°C for 1h and 4h duration. Phase transformation temperature (PTT) of the coatings are determined by DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) and they are found to lie in between 330-370°C. The coatings (both as-deposited and heat treated) are further characterized by energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). All the coatings are found to display the typical nodular morphology common to most EN coatings. Heat treatment temperature together with heating periods has profound effect on coating microstructure. Ni-P-W shows relatively higher hardness (Vickers?s) in as-deposited condition (616HV100) which further increases upon heat treatment. However, the maximum hardness is displayed by Ni-P coating (1347HV100) when heat treated at 400°C for 4 h. Heat treatment resulted is precipitation of harder nickel phosphide phases which increased the overall hardness of the coating. Prolonged heating at a constant temperature again resulted in diffusion of iron (from substrate) as well as oxide formation on the coating surface. In case of friction and wear evaluation, Ni-P-W exhibited the highest wear resistance when processed at 400°C for 4 h. Both heat treatment temperature and duration is also found to influence the tribological behavior of the coating. At longer heat treatment cycle under higher temperature, the friction and wear behavior of the coatings is governed by the formation of mechanically mixed layer of oxides, inter diffused iron and phosphides. The wear mechanism is also investigated by SEM of the coated samples post tribological test and is found to be both adhesive and abrasive in nature. Therefore, brands try to shape the perception of their stakeholders in a positive way with the messages that they send through the traditional media continually. However, with the common usage of social media today, brands have to manage their corporate reputation on the online platforms, as well. Nevertheless, the usage of social media platforms possess some possible risks because social media has given the control to the consumers who can easily create user generated content in these platforms. Discontent consumers can express their negative experiences to brands directly on online communities such as Facebook brand fan pages and can prepare a basis for the outburst of a crisis with the support that they gain from other consumers. Therefore, brands should be prepared in advance for crisis scenarios and should maintain an effective complaint management on their Facebook brand fan pages. This paper aims to discuss what makes consumers powerful on social media and the possible risks that brands can come across on social media. Moreover, it examines how complaint management should be handled on Facebook to prevent the emergence of an online crisis. This paper will contribute to the literature of crisis communication from the aspect of social media. The Case of Indonesia Abstract: The external pressures on the domestic economic stability has prompted Bank Indonesia to focus on its monetary policy on the exchange rate measures. However, as part of the policy mix, the stance of monetary policy has been balanced with accommodative macroprudential policies to continue providing its support for the economic growth. Even though they have different targets and in their implementation there are potential conflicts that may occur when we try to achieve the objectives of both policies, the central bank deems a monetary policy and macroprudential policies to be complementary policies. This situation will provide a space for the macroprudential policies to encourage some kind of bank intermediation and to spur a credit growth. A policy support is needed to accelerate the credit growth to achieve its economic financing targets in the next 5 years, namely at 16% yoy. This study was aimed at identifying proper recommendations on the macroprudential policies such as encouraging a credit growth that included easing Loan to Value (LTV) ratios, targeting sectoral credit, easing the Macroprudential Intermediation Ratio (MIR), decreasing the Macroprudential Liquidity Buffer (MLB) ratios, easing the counter cyclical capital buffer (CCB) requirements, and strengthening coordination with other government agencies. According to the literature, family businesses tend to act in business based on family values. In non-family business, the connection between the leader?s values and the organizational values is less tight. We measured entrepreneurial behaviour with Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO), Learning Orientation (LO), Growth Orientation (GO), and three more dimensions about how the entrepreneurs connect to their business environment. The study used survey method and reached 298 small and medium-sized firms in the Southern Great Plain region of Hungary. Results show that family and non-family entrepreneurs only differ in conservation values (security, conformity, tradition). This is a well-known difference in the literature. However, our primary goal was to compare groups of family and non-family entrepreneurs when a quadrant of the basic value model has a higher or lower value than the median of the sample. This way, we found, those family businesses with a high value of openness to change (stimulation, self-direction) have higher EO and GO. Both groups with a high value of self-transcendence have higher LO. Family firms with high conservation values have higher LO; meanwhile, in non-family businesses, the higher openness to change is associated with higher LO. We expected higher self-enchantment (achievement, power, hedonism) might lead to higher EO, but it stands only for family firms. The pattern of connection of basic values and behaviour differs in the case of family and non-family firms. Our study confirms that the effect of leader?s basic values is less visible on entrepreneurial behaviour in case of non-family firms, but it exists. In case of family firms, the higher conservation values benefit as higher EO and LO and more intense networking in behaviour. Wade and the Appointment of Justice Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court Abstract: While Roe v. Wade (1973) is one of the landmark court cases of the 20th century, Norma Nelson McCorvey, the woman behind the case who has been catapulted to world ?fame? as Jane Roe, the plaintiff of Roe v. Wade, is much less well-known. Norma, a victim of abuse throughout her childhood, was struggling with addictions of alcohol and drugs. By age 21 she had given birth twice, and was pregnant for the third time. She was desperate to have an abortion, so she lied about having been raped in the hope that it would secure her the right to an abortion in the State of Texas where otherwise she would have been denied that choice. The Supreme Court?s verdict came too late for Jane Roe. She never got that abortion or any abortion for that matter in her lifetime, yet her name is inseparably coupled with women?s right to abortion in America. The US Supreme Court by a 7:2 ruling decided that state laws that ban abortion are unconstitutional. Could that decision be actually overturned if the number of conservative justices outnumbered that of the liberal justices? In my paper I intend to discuss how Jane Roe?s change of views on abortion and her request for a retrial of her case in 2004 by the US Supreme Court foreshadowed some of the most significant changes in the pro-life/pro-choice landscape. I will also touch upon the dynamics behind the fact that 45 years after the legalization of abortion in America Roe v. Wade was the most frequently mentioned case during the Senate Judiciary Committee?s Brett Kavanaugh hearings in 2018. Justice Kennedy, whose place on the Supreme Court was filled by Brett Kavanaugh, had been a swing vote on social issues, mostly voting in favor of abortion rights. President Trump, on the other hand, has ?long vowed to appoint justices who would reverse Roe and allow the states to determine whether abortion should be legal?. Throughout the hearings, Kavanaugh would consistently decline to confirm or deny if he would be willing to reverse Roe v. Wade. Therefore, knowing which methods of investment lead to better levels of innovation is essential in a global and very competitive economy as the current one. Because frequently and usually the transfer of technological knowledge takes place among different sectors, it is essential to compare them. In the global world, in order to improve own business and own development, it is essential to understand the actual and real situation of the market and the position occupied in it, so as to detect quickly its possible progress. In this study, to define the position of companies belonging to one or more sectors in the evolutionary process of innovation, I propose a statistical-mathematical method which orders them using publicly available and therefore cost-free data. I analyze the innovative efforts of companies considering 11 different specific initiatives, including accelerators, incubators and innovation labs, over an extended period of time. To demonstrate concretely my method, I use a dataset composed of 80 companies operating in emerging markets, identifying so which types of investments are the best and which companies and sectors are the most innovative. The objective of my method is to provide each individual company with the opportunity to understand which innovative initiatives are more profitable for its expansion in the market and its level of innovation in comparison with the others, so as to be able to apply and profitably to orient own investments. The author presents circumstances (referred to as countertypes) which, by way of exception, exempt certain behaviors from criminal law prohibition. In the system of Polish criminal law, they correspond to justifications made as defenses. Despite the existence of different cultures and legal systems, both in specific parts of the world and in specific countries, relations in the reality are the same. A crime committed by a person in all countries of the world will be the same undesirable act occurring in the real world, regardless of how it is perceived by legal dogmatics. In all places, the structure of crime is based on similar elements. Therefore, an analysis based on the Polish legal order and conclusions derived from the normative structures and the criminal model adopted in our legal system will be valuable for all lawyers and representatives of the judiciary, regardless of the country in which they live. These considerations are based on the model of crime adopted by the Author, derived from the concept of conjugate norms, widely accepted among Polish criminal lawyers. At the beginning, the author discusses the meaning of such terms as ?legal provision,? ?conjugate norm,? ?sanctioned norm? and ?sanctioning norm,? which make basic concepts in Polish criminal law. Then he moves on to the nature of criminal unlawfulness and shows the sources of conjugate norms. He discusses the related doubts and tries to solve them.In the second part of the article, the author outlines problems connected with the legal nature of circumstances referred to as countertypes. He discusses five possible ways of accounting for their legal nature, rejects the incorrect ones and adopts his own position. The most important issues relating to the essence of countertypes are also highlighted. For example, the author argues that a subjective element is a necessary part of each countertype. With different media logics interacting in a hybrid media system political marketing methods through social media have drawn considerable attention and even been seen to pose a threat to democratic processes. This paper looks at the extent and nature of the use of marketing techniques in the 2018 municipal elections in Iceland, by using a mixed methods approach. The findings of a candidate survey and interviews with campaign managers suggest that the methods used are by and large a technical extension of previous methods and not qualitatively different from traditional electioneering. Both social media and traditional media are important marketing vehicles, but the importance of social media clearly on the rise. However, in lager communities in the capital region there is a higher degree of professionalism than in other parts of the country and the size of municipality is important, while the type of party or age of candidates is not. What has been less clear over time, however, is the ideological messages that the regular inclusion of these urban places communicate to the viewers of such works. This presentation endeavors to expand the scholarly attention paid to this topic. From the earliest days of motion pictures to the present, typical representations of urban places have focused alternately on both their attractive and repulsive attributes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, therefore, common representations of urban spaces and places in AIDS movies have followed the same pattern, with cities simultaneously being socially constructed as welcoming spaces for gay men (and otherwise queer individuals) and, as a direct result, as places of AIDS dystopia. Accordingly, this presentation explores the social construction of urban spaces and places as an AIDS dystopia in representative AIDS movies made and released in the United States during the decade of the 1990s. It demonstrates how the typical message communicated in such offerings is that while urban gay ghettos serve as supportive spaces for their queer residents, those who live in them are at constant risk of attack from disapproving outsiders as well as the ravages of HIV/AIDS. In the beginning, there were 34 students and 4 permanent employees. At present it is operating in three Schools; School of Business and Science, School of Humanities and Social Science and School of Health Science. The number of students is around 2400 and members of permanent staff around 200. In the year 1998 distance learning began, since then it has changed dramatically and now the university offers so-called flexible learning. The main goal of this presentation is to explain what flexible learning is and the challenges the teachers face when the majority of the students are not attending the classroom. The authors will outline the development of teaching methods and technology used. One of the authors has been teaching a course in marketing called Integrating marketing communication. With the professional assistance in technology and pedagogy of Centre of teaching and learning the course was developed in order to encourage students to cooperate and get them to work evenly throughout the semester. Variety of teaching methods were used, each with a certain aim. These methods are demonstrated in the presentation and described how the students felt about working with these methods. With these new methods, the students were more active, submitted group projects were of better quality and the student presentations. It was stated in the course evaluation that students were satisfied with the teaching methods used; it helped them to steadily learn and study the curriculum. Especially organised crime poses a major threat to the internal security and the fight against organized crime poses a serious challenge for the services of almost all countries. Organised crime syndicates are behind many serious crimes whose impact is felt on a global level. Criminal activities are no longer limited to one continent only -numerous organised crime groups are active in the EU, often with cross-border reach and multi-ethnic composition. These groups - with roots in Asian, American or African and also European regions- often attempt to influence the European law enforcement agencies, the courts, the media, public officials or politicians at various levels to ensure they're implementing their purposes. Organised crime finds itself particularly quickly in the environment and the spread of new technologies. The main areas of action of these criminal groups are production, smuggling, and drug trafficking, trafficking of human beings, human smuggling, arms trafficking, smuggling of excise goods, gambling, extortion racketeering, etc. Especially in nowadays Europe we are dealing with enormous threats to the European standard of civilizations which raises the question facing the future of Europe itself. Different views on the cultural specificities and European historical roots could cause perceived and real threats to identity. The lack of unanimity and different opinion about the concept of the nation and the sphere of competence of Member States of the EU between governments and politicians contribute to facilitating the operation of organised crime. In many countries the questions about values such as the centrality of the human being, freedom, respect for human rights, justice and solidarity and about the relationship between immigrants and host societies, even the confusion over immigration and crime arises. Any crisis and abolishing of western civilization's standards will let to chaos, threats to European stability and the spread of criminal activity. Abstract: Akureyri University´s Faculty of Business Administration is a member of the Nobanet network, among universities in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The aim of the network is to link together; students, lectures and businesses. As a part of Nobanet, Akureyri University developed an international e-business course along with the other partner institutions in the network. The overall goal was to provide students with necessary knowledge about basic principles of e-business and to improve practical skills to use online tools and applications. In total, the course contains 10 topics, each 1 ECTS. In this presentation, the authors will explain the origin of the course, which is the first international e-business course taught in Akureyri University. In developing the course, Moocs (e. massive open online courses) were analysed and used as role models. The learning platform Eliademy is used as a host for the course and the authors will demonstrate the platform and show examples of videos and learning material used in the course. Students in Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Denmark have already taken parts of the e-business course. The students experience was examined with questionnaire that they students filled out when finishing the course. The authors will present the results from this research. Majority of the students liked the course, as the average grade was 4,06, out of 5. Students in their first and second year ranking the course higher than students did in their third year of study. Eliademy was considered easy to use by students, grading it with 4,23 out of 5 in the research. During the winter months, tourists mainly visit the south and the southwest part of Iceland, while other regions have fewer tourist during the winter months. Concentration has occurred in the south-western corner of the country, contrary to the goal of better distribution of tourist. One way of distributing tourists is the project Arctic Coast Way.The Arctic Coast Way is an attraction for tourists who want to stay out of the main roads and do so by crossing the coastal north coast. The route is a total of 900 kilometres. In May 2019, the Arctic Coast Way was chosen as the top 10 list of European destinations that are worth a visit by Lonely Planet, one of the world's most popular travel guidebooks. The project was first introduced two years ago. The Arctic Coast Way main objective should be to attract tourists' attention to the coastline along North Iceland. Such roads are known in the global tourism industry, as a tool for directing travellers by certain roads in a particular area. The overall goal of the project is to create increased opportunities for tourism companies by creating brands with which they can connect. With this, they could become more visible both in domestic and foreign markets, as well as a tool for getting tourists to travel abroad and in the peripheral areas of so-called, and to get them to stay longer in the North. The main goal of this presentation is to explain how students at the University of Akureyri took part and contributed to this project. Many good ideas from students were put forward and were used when this route was formally introduced on June 8th 2019. The purpose of this study was to compare the result of culture and real-time PCR on detecting Legionella and to evaluate the usefulness of real-time PCR alongside traditional culture for enumeration of Legionella from water samples. The real-time PCR assays conducted to quantify Legionella spp. (16S rRNA gene) and L. pneumophila (mip gene). Each real-time PCR assay had 100% specificity and excellent sensitivity (5 GU/reaction). Legionella was enumerated in 200 environmental water samples. In the culture, 36 samples were positive and 164 samples were negative. Based on the culture, real-time PCR was a high negative predictive value of 99%, 35 samples were true positive, 105 samples were true negative, 59 samples were false positive and 1 samples were false negative. Quantitative analysis of the two methods showed a weak linear correlation (r2=0.29, r2=0.61, respectively). Real-time PCR analysis showed weak linear correlation (r2=0.29, r2=0.61) with the culture-based results. Although it is difficult to directly apply quantitative analysis results of real-time PCR in the enumeration of environmental Legionella, it can be used as a complementary means of standard methods to rapidly screen negative samples and to more accurately diagnose. South Africa?s apartheid regime has psychologically damaged both its white and black citizens. Owing to the crimes of the past and in the absence of absolution, Playland?s protagonists, who embody contrasting facets of the fragmented national psyche, find themselves trapped in time and consumed by guilt. Without a stabilising force on which to base their subjectivity, the two men experience the world as merciless, indifferent and meaningless. When they journey back into the past, they begin to forgive themselves and each other. They realise that they are responsible for choosing who they are and the reality of their own lives, and that their potentiality for being whole lies in going out from their centredness to interact with others and accept and affirm them. A four-year follow-up survey of 158 social work undergraduates indicates that deep learning orientation has a positive and significant impact on students' professional identity and willingness to be a social worker. The more interested social worker students are in professional knowledge, the more satisfied they can obtain knowledge through professional education, and the stronger professional identity of social work is, the more likely they are to engage in becoming social workers when graduate. With the reflection on the current curriculum of judicial social work, problem-oriented approach, experiential education and vocational guidance are suggested to be applied into the course. In every country, government is a central institution that is expected to stabilise the economy through proper economic policies implementation. However, it is in understanding the relationship between business sentiments and economic growth that major impact on their proxies, Business Confidence Index and Gross Domestic Product can be analysed and influenced. Therefore, the main objective of this article was to evaluate the relationship between business sentiments and economic growth in South Africa. The study employed a quarterly time series data for the period of 10 years ranging from 2008 to 2017, extracted from the Bureau of Economic Research and the South African Reserve Bank. The study employed an econometric methodology using the Johansen multivariate to test for cointegration and the Vector Error Correction Model to test relationships. The empirical results found suggest that there is a positive and significant long run relationship between Gross Domestic Product and Business Confidence Index. Thus, policy makers should consider the determinants of business sentiments and economic growth in South Africa in an attempt to enhance confidence and economic activities by creating an enabling environment for business operations to attract capital investment into the country. Since then, the China-US trade imbalance has been the key source of economic tension between the two superpowers, stretching back to concerns raised by the Bush and Obama administrations. Members of the European Union have had similar concerns about their trade imbalances with China. In the US, since the turn of the century the demise of manufacturing firms unable to compete against low priced Chinese imports has repeatedly sparked calls for retaliatory action by the US government against China. Given the impact exchange rates have on international competitiveness and trade flows, the value of the exchange rate has also been central to the ongoing China-US dialogue on the trade imbalance. The US government has repeatedly pressed China to revalue its currency from the mid-2000s on the grounds that its undervalued currency boosted the competitiveness of China?s manufacturing sector and contributed to the bilateral trade imbalance. While the CNY/$US exchange rate has strengthened significantly over the past decade, somewhat paradoxically, China?s trade deficit with the United States has continued to widen from a deficit of near $80 billion in 2000 to close to $400 billion in 2018. Under the Trump administration, direct action has been taken to reduce this trade imbalance by imposing tariffs on Chinese imports to the US, beginning with tariffs on steel and aluminium and extended to solar panels and household appliances. China has retaliated by imposing tariffs on chemicals, coal, medical equipment and soybeans. This paper presents a two-country international macroeconomic framework for examining the determinants of the China-US trade imbalance. Inspired by Alexander?s (1952) much neglected absorption approach, it emphasises that the bilateral trade imbalance reflects discrepancies between levels of their respective output, or aggregate supply, and expenditure, or aggregate demand. The paper is structured as follows. Section 2 summarises recent Chinese and US growth, bilateral balance of payments trends and protectionist measures, before Section 3 proposes a simple international macroeconomic framework based on the distinction between output and expenditure to examine the key issues. Section 4 then adapts the framework to examine the influence of discrepant economic growth, exchange rate management, protectionist measures and foreign direct investment on the trade imbalance, before Section 5 draws policy implications. Doctor-patient communication, embedded within the framework of the complex health care system is itself a complex subject. According to experts, in a networked society, the digitalization of information and communication changes the way people communicate and cooperate and predict significant changes in communication. The knowledge asymmetry between doctors and patients has decreased with the use of the Internet. Accordingly, our research question is how this phenomenon appears in doctor-patient communication in a Hungarian setting. In accordance with the complexity of the topic, we chose to use in-depth interviews and focus group interviews as a research method and analyzed them using the Grounded Theory method. Two focus groups were conducted in which both actors, doctors and patients appeared, and we conducted in-depth interviews with four doctors and ten patients. Subjects, in accordance with the Grounded Theory method, were selected by quality sampling. We had an interview guideline, but we deviated from it from time to time, which is allowed by our chosen research method. The characteristics of communication were interpreted according to the social psychological and functional model. According to our results, the traditional communication culture of healthcare is dominant in communication, doctors adhere to this, which today leads to a decrease in patient trust, which is attempted to be managed by patients with different strategies. The author focuses on a controversy about necessity/unnecessity to supply a proof of ergodicity/non-ergodicity of economic processes. The author draws a conclusion that O?Donnell perceives the difference between probabilistic and non-probabilistic uncertainty as quantitative rather than qualitative in opposition to Davidson who perceives this difference as qualitative. In a controversy about necessity/unnecessity, the author sides with O?Donnell and supports O?Donnell?s argumentation by pointing to baselessness of the burden-of-proof argument, as long as both parties of the controversy have an interest in finding the truth. In this paper, box office and online rating data of 115 Chinese films released in North America is selected for a regression analysis, including opening week box office data, subsequent box office data and online rating data from both China and North America. Analysis showed that there exists a positive correlation between online ratings in China and North American. Chinese films with high ratings in China are also well received in North America and opening weekend?s online ratings in North America play a key role in increasing the box office in China after the films? opening week in North America. Thus, Chinese films that are selected to enter the North American market should have high online ratings in China and great attention should be paid to online ratings by North American audience. Moreover, due to smooth variation of material properties, they do not suffer from subsequent stress concentration arising in case of laminated composites. Thus FGMs find a wide-spread usage in modern branches of civil and mechanical industries. FGM components are also used in aerospace, nuclear, ship-building and optical industries. The structures made of axially functionally graded (AFG) material are advantageous where cantilever and rotating structures are involved such as turbomachine and turbine blades, helicopter rotor blades, spacecraft with flexible appendages etc. The current paper investigates large amplitude static deflection analysis on axially functionally graded (AFG) beam. Three boundary conditions i.e. Clamped-Clamped (CC), Simply Supported ? Simply Supported (SS) and Clamped- Simply Supported (CS) have been considered for the present work. Linear gradation of material properties is considered in the axial direction. The formulation is based on Timoshenko beam theory which includes shear deformation and rotary inertia effects. Von Karman nonlinear strain displacement equations have been taken into account to incorporate the geometric non-linearity which arises because of the large deflection. Minimum Potential Energy Principle has been used to generate the governing set of equations and generated equations are solved through the implementation of an iterative scheme (direct substitution with relaxation method). The effects of gradation factors on the deflection of AFG uniform beam is studied. The results that have been generated are successfully validated with previously published paper. A key challenge here arises from randomization restrictions. Consider an experiment to assess the causal effects of two factors, expert review and teacher bonus scheme, on 40 schools in a state. A completely randomized assignment can disperse the schools undergoing review all over the state, thus entailing prohibitively high cost. A practical alternative is to divide these schools by geographic proximity into four groups called whole-plots, two of which are randomly assigned to expert review. The teacher bonus scheme is then applied to half of the schools chosen randomly within each whole-plot. This is an example of a classic split-plot design. Randomization-based analysis, avoiding rigid linear model assumptions, is the most natural methodology to draw causal inference from finite population split-plot experiments as above. Recently, Zhao, Ding, Mukerjee and Dasgupta (2018, Annals of Statistics) investigated this for balanced split-plot designs, where whole-plots are of equal size. However, this can often pose practical difficulty in social sciences. Thus, if the 40 schools are spread over four counties with 8, 8, 12 and 12 schools, then each county is a natural whole-plot, the design is unbalanced, and the analysis in Zhao et al. (2018) is not applicable. We investigate causal inference in split-plot designs that are possibly unbalanced, using the potential outcomes framework. We start with an unbiased estimator of a typical treatment contrast and first examine how far Zhao et al.?s (2018) approach can be adapted to our more general setup. It is seen that this approach, aided by a variable transformation, yields an expression for the sampling variance of the treatment contrast estimator but runs into difficulty in variance estimation. Specifically, as in the balanced case and elsewhere in causal inference (Mukerjee, Dasgupta and Rubin, 2018, Journal of the American Statistical Association), the resulting variance estimator is conservative, i.e., has a nonnegative bias. But, unlike most standard situations, the bias does not vanish even under strict additivity of treatment effects. To overcome this problem, a careful matrix analysis is employed leading to a new variance estimator which is also conservative, but enjoys the nice property of becoming unbiased under a condition even milder than strict additivity. We also discuss the issue of minimaxity with a view to controlling the bias in variance estimation, and explore the bias via simulations. While a great deal of medical and sociological research has been done on the purported pathology of the fat female body, scholars have been glossing over examples of extremely problematic literary representations of the corporeal intersections of fat and gender. I will argue that such fictional representations both reflect and shape popular understandings of the fat body and that these understandings are profoundly gendered and misogynist. Rather than impacting the lived experiences of only fat women, these dynamics function as a disciplinary tool that severely restricts the life choices of all women. By reading selected texts by female authors with a focus on their representations of fat female characters, this paper will demonstrate that fat has become a lazy literary shorthand for myriad, always negative, assumptions about women. I will illustrate that such examples can be found in the work of award winning female authors who have built their literary reputations as much on the quality of their writing as on their supposed insight into women?s lives and psyches. When such authors use fat to denigrate female characters and that goes by without comment from scholars, we do a disservice to the millions of women who are reading these texts and receiving the message that a woman?s primary responsibility continues to be to tame her ?unruly? body. Fat is disruptive and a visual signal of the female body that refuses to conform to patriarchal discipline. We need to ask why this is a cause for derision rather than celebration in the work of selected female authors. Title: Factor of Social Growth of the Population at Japanese Local Countryside area Abstract: Japan has been facing problems related to decline of population and aging. Especially, many municipalities in local countryside area are continuously population decreasing. In spite of this, municipalities of the social growth of the population increase exist. This study targets social growth of the population at Japanese Local Countryside area. The study analyzed population social increase or decrease according to 1896 municipalities of all over Japan from 2010 to 2015. Thereafter, we squeezed the municipalities of social growth of the population without three major metropolitan areas (Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka) and research the factor of social population increase. As a result the following points were demonstrated. A. There are many municipalities of the social growth of the populations around a local central city. These municipalities are characterized with a bedroom community to local central city. B. There are seen municipalities of the Social growth of the population at a resort and a sightseeing spot. There are many immigrants of the foreigner in such an area.C. There is a municipality of the social growth of the population by a company invitation with the creation of the industrial area.D. There are some local mountainous municipalities of social growth of the population by immigrant invitation measures such as cash supply for the marriage, delivery, the entrance to school, a little less than 5 million yen subsidy for house newly building, instruction by the expert to agriculture and forestry marine products industry beginner, etc. Length: 1 page Creation-Date: 2019-10 Publication-Status: Published in Proceedings of the Proceedings of the 51st International Academic Conference, Vienna, Oct 2019, pages 107-107 File-URL: https://iises.net/proceedings/iises-international-academic-conference-vienna/table-of-content/detail?cid=97&iid=029&rid=11323 File-Function: First version, 2019 Number: 9711323 Classification-JEL: O20, R58, Q01 Keywords: Regional Development, Social Growth of the Population, Immigrant invitation measures Handle: RePEc:sek:iacpro:9711323 Template-Type: ReDIF-Paper 1.0 Author-Name: Reinhard Neck Author-Name-First: Reinhard Author-Name-Last: Neck Author-Email: reinhard.neck@aau.at Author-Workplace-Name: Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt Author-Name: Dmitri Blueschke Author-Name-First: Dmitri Author-Name-Last: Blueschke Author-Email: dmitri.blueschke@aau.at Author-Workplace-Name: Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt Author-Name: Viktoria Blueschke-Nikolaeva Author-Name-First: Viktoria Author-Name-Last: Blueschke-Nikolaeva Author-Email: viktoria.blueschke-nikolaeva@aau.at Author-Workplace-Name: Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt Title: Finite Horizon Dynamic Games with and without a Scrap Value Abstract: In this paper, we examine the effects of scrap values on the solutions of dynamic game Problems with a finite time horizon. This has been a major concern to most stakeholders in education because of its negative effect on the performance of the students in both internal and external examinations. Previous studies conducted on factors attributable to reading habit formation among students have concentrated more on high cost of books, non-existence of libraries, unavailability of relevant books in public secondary schools. This study, therefore, was carried out to examine educational media utilisation and cognitive styles (field dependent and field independent) as correlates of reading habit of students in private secondary schools in Oyo state, Nigeria. The survey research design of correlational type was adopted. The multistage sampling procedure was used. Simple random sampling technique was adopted to select 20 out of 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Oyo State, Nigeria. From each of the 20 LGAs, two private secondary schools were randomly selected; while the total enumeration technique was used to include all the 941 senior secondary school II students from the selected schools. Instruments used were Educational Media Utilisation Observation (r=0.87), Cognitive Styles (r=0.72) and Reading Habit (r=0.78) scales. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson?s product moment correlation and multiple regression techniques were used at 0.05 level of significance.Educational media mostly utilised were smart phones (? =2.33) and Internet (? =2.27). Major purposes of educational media utilisation include; learning (? =2.35), vocabulary improvement (? =2.14) and reading ability enhancement (? =2.12). Students? levels of cognitive styles were field dependent (? =2.53) and field independent (? =2.23). Educational media utilisation (r = 0.25) and cognitive style (r = 0.37) had positive significant correlation with reading habit of students. Educational media utilization and field independent influenced reading habit of students in private secondary schools in Oyo State, Nigeria. Proper attention should be given to relevant educational media and cognitive styles of students in order to ensure development and formation of good reading habit among secondary school students in Oyo State, Nigeria. Many studies have been undertaken to explore determinants influencing fluctuation in stock prices in different markets and dissimilar conclusions are found. The purpose of this study attempts to determine the factors that cause stock prices to increase or decrease. Eight explanatory variables including dividend yield, growth, leverage, return on equity, bookvalue per share, earnings per share, price-earning (P/E) ratio, and net profit after tax have been selected, while one controllable variable is set as firm-size. Completed financial data of577 samples from companies listed in Thailand Stock Exchange (TSE) SET 100 Index, excluding financing and banking sector, during the period of 2009-2018 are analyzed. Multiple regression model with statistic testing at the significant level 0.05 has been implemented. The results indicate strongly positive significant association between return on equity, earnings per share, price earnings and net profit after tax on firm?s stock price. Whereas dividend yield is the only factor that has negatively relationship with stock price. This model is supported with high R2 of 0.88. The findings in this study can assist investors or managers to comprehend the effect of specific determinants to company?s stock price in Thai capital market. Puppetry exhibits potential as a pedagogical tool, but intermediate phase teachers are unfamiliar with its application in the classroom, since their training lacked focus on this pedagogy/component? This paper is based on a masters degree study, presenting the case of one teacher and his experiences with puppetry as pedagogy of play in the intermediate phase mathematics classroom. Third Generation Cultural Historical Theory was used as theoretical framework and a metacognitive methodology as research lens to determine his perception of puppetry and his experiences with puppets as part of his teaching-learning praxis. Data obtained from this participant was collected in the form of a pre-workshop interview and reflections during half-day workshops on two consecutive Saturdays and reflections on his and his learners? experiences with the puppets. These workshops were aimed at introducing and empowering Intermediate Phase Mathematics teachers to the potential of puppets as a pedagogical tool, of which this participant already had previous experiences with. Puppetry was experienced by the teacher as useful, creative, fun, effective, different and cost effective in a means that learners can explore their own flaws and potentials. Therefore, there are environmental management systems, which are the set of practices, procedures, processes and resources needed to comply with environmental regulations in companies and are focused on the reduction of impacts on the environment and the efficiency of processes. In Universities, even when considered as companies, these systems do not work efficiently, which makes it necessary and urgent that a model of environmental management system is adequate and that, through teaching and research, society is helped to achieve the transition to sustainable lifestyles.Universities generate an impact directly and indirectly on the environment and can be considered small cities, because of their size and population and because of the multiple activities that take place within them that can affect the environment. They are very complex structures, with numerous subcultures, styles, contrasts, experiences of all kinds, with great differences among students, faculties and community in general, which leads to rethink the decisions to be made within the system.Given the above, one of the objectives of these educational centers should be to achieve a better use of their resources with the sole purpose of making the campus environmentally sustainable. Each university is then conceived as an institution that is concerned with mitigating the impacts generated by its activities and by generating institutional policies that are a model to be followed by other universities in the city, in each country and in other countries. In order to know the sensitivity of the student community about the environmental problems of the university campus and their awareness to solve the environmental problems present on the campus, an experiment was designed under the theoretical framework of the contingent valuation method (provision to pay) in order to explore the possibility of accepting a special annual quota aimed at improving environmental services and expanding facilities dedicated to culture, coexistence and recreation of the university community. The results of the field work carried out from August to November 2018 are presented, as well as recommendations for the university authorities regarding a sustainable management model for the university campus. (Singer and Kimbles), founded on Analytical Psychology (C. G. Jung), proposes to understand expressions of the collective mind in specific groups attitudes and behaviors. "Malinche" (Mexico, 2018) is a historical television series produced and directed by Patricia Arriaga that tells the story of Malinche, an extraordinary indigenous woman during the Spanish Conquest (1511-1550). She has been an important figure represented in history, art, literature and now, historical fiction on television. Malinche played a key role in the fall of the Aztec empire (1519-1521) by acting mainly as translator, negotiator and cultural mediator for the Spanish conqueror Hernán Cortéz. As a result of this collaboration, Malinche in Mexico has been traditionally considered a traitor; she is present in the collective imagination of Mexicans today as a symbol of dishonor and shame. The contemporary term 'malinchismo', o 'malinchista', considered a cultural complex as studied by Jacqueline Gerson, denotes a wound/trauma in the Mexican psyche, and serves to describe a person or an attitude of betrayal to one?s own; in this case, a self-destructive mindset and behavior that leads to a preference for the foreign and despise for what is Mexican. The TV series "Malinche" proposes an interesting and novel venue to re think the highly complicated context of the Conquest, and advocates for Malinche to be seen in a more integrative light, as a wise and brave young woman entangled in deeply personal and external dynamics, and immersed in the most severe conditions of a war and its brutal consequences. It is my contention that by challenging our limited, pre conceived ideas, "Malinche" constitutes an opportunity to examine our deeply rooted, detrimentally condemnatory views and to amend them for an open, realistic, understanding attitude towards Malinche and her historical circumstance. In the holistic approach, an examinee?s speech is given a single rating to reflect its overall quality. Analytic scoring, on the other hand, involves different aspects of performance, with each receiving its own rating. The present study investigated the relationship of analytic scoring criteria to the holistic assessment of speaking performance. It aimed to discover whether raters, in assigning a single global rating, had a tendency to focus significantly more on certain aspects of speaking than others. Ten experienced raters judged speech performance of thirty-five non-native English speakers. Two types of scores were obtained ? a single score for holistic rating and a set of scores corresponding to five analytic criteria, i.e. coherence, fluency, grammatical accuracy, lexical resource, and pronunciation. Multiple regression analysis revealed that fluency had the strongest impact on the holistic score, followed by pronunciation, coherence, and lexical resource, while grammatical accuracy did not contribute significantly to the rating. Despite the slight differences in the weight contribution of each criterion to the overall score, the findings suggest that raters seemed to favor the ability to communicate at the right speed without too many pronunciation difficulties, while focusing less on lexical and grammatical accuracy. During complex problem solving, not all relevant information will be available to the decision-maker at first sight. Knowledge is derived from generally incomplete information and is accompanied by uncertainty. This can lead to falsely confirming one?s understanding of the true rules governing a complex problem. Bad choices can then lead to good outcomes, further strengthening a wrong mental model, eventually leading to inefficient strategies. The decision-maker can then either rely on old strategies or begin to gather new information, perform counterintuitive actions to override former rule knowledge and thus engage in non-routine problem solving. Curiosity might favor such behavior, as it is the recognition, pursuit and desire to explore uncertain and ambiguous events. To analyze the decision patterns of participants who are more successful in overcoming routine and to find possible correlations with curiosity, two hundred sixty-two US-American Mturks completed both a curiosity questionnaire and an experiment in the form of a cognitive puzzle game. High values in ?Joyous Exploration? were not associated with larger numbers of experimental decisions, while about 10 % of the participants who succeeded in obtaining true rule knowledge performed less experimental decisions, reported higher response times, but solved the experiment more efficiently. As shown, overcoming routine is an essential ?21st Century skill? in economic decision making that requires learning from unexpected feedback, benefits from reflection time and is shown to be a serious mental challenge. Global healthcare expenditures are expected to continue to rise as spending is projected to increase at the rate of 5.4 percent per annum, from USD $7.724 trillion in 2017 to USD $10.059 trillion in 2022. Results from CBRE?s recent EMEA-wide Investor Survey show that healthcare is one of the most popular subsectors of the alternatives market and that large numbers of investors are looking to get into the sector. Firm?s financial performance is often used as the key metrics when making investment decision. However, a number of financial ratios has to be collectively considered in order to provide an appropriate evaluation of financial performance. This study aims to propose a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDC) model to measure and compare the financial performance of twenty-three healthcare firms listed in Thailand Stock Exchange. These firms are examined and assessed in terms of eight financial ratios which are combined to obtain a financial performance score by using Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution Methods (TOPSIS). TOPSIS helps to rank these firms for three-year time period between 2016 and 2018. This study will find out whether the ranking results of TOPSIS and whether the firms can keeps their position throughout the three years. A growing part of the tourism industry is the urban tourism. UNWTO describes urban tourism as trips to cities or places with high population density. Several researchers have tried to develop a framework for understanding urban tourism, which is highly important to cities' economies but also requires significant urban infrastructures. In Europe, urban tourism increased by 4.3% representing over 65% of total bedights (235.1 million in 2014).The current research focuses on testing the effect of residence on the number of domestic vacations and on vacations abroad and on the selected type of vacation (nature or urban). The dependent variable is preferences for nature vs. urban destination, measured on a Likert scale. The independent variables include socio-demographic variables, type of residential setting?city or other type of setting. The data were collected using questionnaires distributed between March and June 2018 in different locations in Israel. 46 percent of the respondent were male, the average age was 28 and 75 percent leave in cities. The results indicate that there is no significant correlation between the type of residence and the number of vacations abroad, however those who do not live in a city take significantly more domestic vacations. The regression results indicate that when traveling abroad: Urban tourism is more preferred by those that live in cities and by younger tourists. Similar results are obtained for domestic tourism. The results can help policymakers adapt their marketing efforts to the right tourist. For example, if they want to market urban tourism to international tourists they should address their marketing efforts to those who live in cities and to younger people. Further research should consider the effects of factors such as length of stay, potential travel companions, and other characteristics of the destination (modern or developed country) on destination preferences. In other words, Rey concludes that exchange rate regimes do not play any role in deciding between capital mobility and independent monetary policy. Further, a lot of studies have come up which largely discuss about the monetary policy independence in countries that allow free mobility of capital flows, by making comparisons between countries with fixed exchange rate regime and floating exchange rate regime. However, the studies on monetary policy independence of countries with managed floating exchange rate regimes are very scant. Given this context, it becomes quite imperative to undertake a study on the monetary policy independence in India for the fact that India is a unique case in itself with not complete free mobility of capital and a managed float exchange rate regime. . Therefore, this paper employed the auto regressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach to study the monetary policy independence in India. The results of the study reveal that the Indian monetary policy stance is highly integrated with the US and the European Union monetary policy stance. According to these standards newly qualified teachers should demonstrate knowledge of home language acquisition and second language learning theories and related research findings. Teachers of Second Language should be able to recognize the reciprocal relationships between learners? languages as resources for learning and development and also have a sound knowledge of, and proficiency in, the Second Language. Graduate teachers should possess knowledge of how sounds, vocabulary and grammar of the Second Language are taught and demonstrate the ability to use a range of instructional strategies and methods to support the development of literacy in the target language. Finally, the Second Language teachers should be able to source, design and use appropriate resources. These standards are aligned with Shulman?s (1987) seven major types of knowledge which should form part of any teacher?s repertoire. Bachman and Palmer (1996) argue that the second language teacher should have some level of linguistic proficiency in the target language. With the emphasis on the Fourth Industrial Revolution language teachers should also know how to facilitate computer-assisted language learning (CALL). The purpose of this study is to investigate final year Intermediate Phase (gr 4 ? gr 6) student teachers? perceptions of their own readiness, skills and knowledge to effectively teach Afrikaans, the second most spoken second language in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The study is a work in progress using a qualitative case study within an interpretivist paradigm. It is guided by Garrison, Anderson and Archer?s Community of Inquiry as theoretical framework. The preliminary findings point to some gaps in the current curriculum and student teachers? knowledge. There is also a need to improve the student teachers? proficiency in the target language. Shopee is the largest retail e-commerce in Southeast Asia. The study is based Electronic Service Quality Model (E-S-QUAL) and electronic recovery service quality (E-Recs-QUAL). 100 online questionnaires have been distributed to Shoppe customers who had an experience in using Shopee application. The study result reveals that most respondents are single and female with an average age of 21. The level of satisfaction is high for all dimensions. To be more specific, the highest level of satisfaction is witnessed in system availability while privacy, efficiency, responsiveness, fulfillment and contact share similar satisfactory level of high. The lowest is compensation. The study also reveals that there are differences in placing important to those dimensions, which can be divided into 3 categories. High degree of importance efficiency and fulfillment while moderate degree of significance consists of privacy system availability responsiveness. The least importance factors are contact and compensation. The study suggests that the quality of fulfillment should be improved because of there being high level of importance from customer perspective with moderate satisfactory level. Knowledge of English Lexical Collocation. Abstract: This experimental research study investigated the knowledge of Thai nursing students on lexical collocations extracted from a Sample Corpus of Nursing Research Articles (SCNRA) and examined the effect of a corpus-based instruction on the students? performance. The participants were 51 fourth year nursing students from the Institute of Nursing, Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) in Thailand. The pre-test was administered, followed by a workshop on the target collocations and the post-test administered at the end. The results from the pre-test revealed the overall knowledge of the majority of the students was at a ?Fair? level. The pre-test and the post-test results were compared using the paired samples t-test which showed a statistically significant improvement of the students? performance in the total score (t(50) = (-11.75), p = <0.001) and in each of the three parts: part 1 (t(50) = (-7.47), p = <0.001); part 2 (t(50) = (-8.10), p = <0.001); and part 3 (t(50) = (-7.44), p = <0.001). In terms of the students? performance, the majority of the students? scores increased and put them one level higher in all parts from ?Fair? to ?Good?, except for part 3 where the level of performance was improved from ?Poor? to ?Fair?. The results imply that both the test and the corpus-based instruction of collocations are beneficial for the learners, thus should be encouraged.
