IISES International Academic Conference, Venice

Boat Tour to Murano, Burano and Torcello

Free for conference participants.

The aim of our conference tour is to provide opportunity for informal networking, possibly creating partnership among the conference participants.

Thursday, May 28

The boat leaves at 9.00 from the Venice International University, San Servolo, to the islands Murano, Burano and Torcello.

Murano is a series of islands linked by bridges. Murano glass, colourful and elaborate, has been a product of Venice for centuries. Glass is why most people come to Murano. You can find here a fascinating glass museum - Museo Vetrario.

Burano is the most colorful of the three islands, with its brightly colored houses and handmade lace. The tradition of painting houses is said to relate to the fishermen - the bright colors made it easier for returning to find their homes in the thick fog of the lagoon.

Torcello is different – escape the Venice crowds and enjoy the peace and silence of this almost empty island. The main reason for visiting this island is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Dell'Assunta built in 639. Inside the cathedral are stunning Byzantine mosaics from the 11th to the 13th centuries. One of the most impressive is the depiction of the Last Judgement.

The tour is non-guided but accompanied by the IISES team.

Lunch and entrance fees are not included.

We will be back at about 17.00. The time of return is approximate and cannot be guaranteed.

Participants who registered for this conference tour will receive a tour voucher at the registration desk.

Children under six years are not allowed on the tour.
