COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN POLICY IMPLEMENTATION : A STUDY OF LAGOS STATE INCLUSIVE EDUCATION POLIC

Abstract:

The study was poised to examine community participation in the policy implementation, a study of Lagos State inclusive education policy in Nigeria . In an attempt to achieve the purpose this study, three research questions were developed for the study. The population of this study covered all members of the Community Development Associations(CDAs)which were located in the communities in Lagos State from which Ninety(90) members of the Community Development Associations(CDAs) were sampled for the study from Lagos Mainland, Akoka and Somolu communities.Structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents during working hours. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyse the entire items which answers the research questions formulated for the study. The findings of this study revealed that the communities are often involved in hiring teachers for inclusive education. Government often involve the member of the communities to achieve inclusive goals and objectives by supplying resources to aid the implementation of the policy; establishment of some schools for inclusive education and through joint efforts implement school projects.The study recommended that Government should be encouraged not to underestimate the contributions of the communities in policy making on inclusive education as this will reveal the needs of the communities which only inclusive education can meet and as such contribute to the development of the communities in the state and Nigeria education as a country at large.
