INFLUENCE OF INTEREST IN SCHOOLING, SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS AND SELF -EFFICACY ON THE BIOLOGY ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of interest in schooling, socio- economic status and self - efficacy on the biology academic performance of secondary school students in Nigeria. Using the descriptive survey research design, two hundred students constituted the study's sample. Three standardize and valid scales were used to collect data from the participants. The method of data analysis adopted for this study was was the Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC), and multiple regressions analysis with the level of significance set for acceptance or rejection at 0.05. The result indicated that, the independent variables both jointly and relatively contributed significantly to the prediction of biology academic performance of secondary school students. Also, there was a significant relationship between biology academic performance and the independent variables of the study. It was suggested that, promoting interests in schooling and self- efficacy among students is necessary for advancing successful biology academic performance among secondary school students.
