SERKAN GERIDĂ–NMEZ

Abstract:

There has been an increasing interest in the field of vocabulary learning in a second language in the last decade and a significant amount of empirical research has been carried out on the subject. The area of vocabulary teaching, however, has not received a similar attention from researchers. Vocabulary teaching, which is understood here to be teacher and classroom-oriented, needs to be established as an area of research which would ultimately lead to a theory of vocabulary teaching. This research often provide practical information for classroom practices. This study aims to present a detailed literature review about the research focusing on practical issues in vocabulary teaching. The presentation projects to provide practical information and practices which may inspire help ELT teachers in their classrooms. Also some practices may be discussed with the audience. We, as teachers, need more practice than theory.
