EMPOWER BIG CLASSES THROUGH 2+1 MODEL CULTIVATION

Abstract:

Class size has grown exponentially in tertiary education in response to lower cost demand. With this growth comes the obstacle to maintaining teaching quality in terms of students’ learning motivation and performance. This action research reports on a one-year collaborative project where a 2+1 pedagogical model is applied to four classes with a size of 120 students. The 2+1 model integrates simulation practice into formal instruction with a view to enhancing peer collaboration and acquisition of the learned knowledge and skills. The model demonstrates its efficacy with a 98% completion in problem-solving tasks, a 26% increase in learning motivation, a 23% increase in learning confidence, and a 17% increase in overall learning performance.
